Its name comes from Pierre Guiraud, a merchant in <strong>Bordeaux<\/strong> who bought the estate in 1776. It now ranks as one of the world's top classified growths. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.comptoirdesmillesimes.com\/sauternes\">Sauternes<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong>in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.comptoirdesmillesimes.com\/blog\/classement-grands-crus-1855\/\"><strong>1855 classification<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\nThe Bernard family, then the Maxwell family following a marriage, acquired the estate from 1861 until 1932. In those days <strong>beautiful years of Guiraud<\/strong>. Indeed, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.comptoirdesmillesimes.com\/chateau-guiraud\"><strong>Chateau Guiraud<\/strong><\/a> has benefited from a renovation of its cellars and an extension of the estate. In 1932, the ch\u00e2teau changed hands with Paul C\u00e9sar Rival, an aviator with a passion for wine. It is said that he landed one day on the site of the Ch\u00e2teau's vineyards.\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.comptoirdesmillesimes.com\/chateau-yquem\"><strong>Chateau d'Yquem<\/strong><\/a>and it was love at first sight!<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">During the Second World War, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.comptoirdesmillesimes.com\/chateau-guiraud\"><strong>Ch\u00e2teau Guiraud<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0was ravaged, the estate suffered extensive damage and underwent yet another change of ownership. The Narby family bought the <strong>domaine Guiraud <\/strong>in 1981. A wealthy Canadian family of Egyptian origin, who completely restored the<strong> domain<\/strong>. Visit <a href=\"https:\/\/www.comptoirdesmillesimes.com\/chateau-guiraud\">chateau Guiraud wines<\/a> had seen their quality deteriorate since the years <a href=\"https:\/\/www.comptoirdesmillesimes.com\/vins-1970\">1970<\/a>so the Narby family hired Xavier Planty in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.comptoirdesmillesimes.com\/vins-1988\">1988<\/a>as manager of the winegrowing business, which has enabled the <strong>Guiraud wines<\/strong> to regain their quality. The Narby family decided to sell Ch\u00e2teau Guiraud in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.comptoirdesmillesimes.com\/vins-2006\">2006<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center;\">Ch\u00e2teau Guiraud today<\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Xavier Planty<\/strong> bought the estate through his association with Robert Peugeot, Olivier Bernard (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.comptoirdesmillesimes.com\/domaine-de-chevalier\">Domaine de Chevalier<\/a>) and Stephan Von Neipperg (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.comptoirdesmillesimes.com\/chateau-canon-la-gaffeliere\">Canon La Gaffeli\u00e8re<\/a>). Today, the<strong> Ch\u00e2teau Guiraud<\/strong> is in good hands. Perfect continuity is assured, and the quality of this wine is now well established. The estate covers 100 hectares of vines, planted with Semillon (70%) and Sauvignon (30%) on gravelly soil over clay and sand. It is never chaptalized, as we don't harvest until the grapes offer more than 300 g\/l of sugar (18\u00b0). Xavier Planty, passionate, professional and demanding, applies methods identical to those of the \"lord of the appellation\": the grapes are picked grain by grain, fermented in barrels and one-third aged in new oak barrels. We can't say that<strong> Guiraud <\/strong>reach the top of the<strong>'<a href=\"https:\/\/www.comptoirdesmillesimes.com\/chateau-yquem\">Yquem<\/a><\/strong>but this one has risen in the hierarchy to a level of quality that many others have lost, and above all it is not at the same level as the others. <strong>price<\/strong> !<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The estate has also produced a second wine, \"\u00a0<strong>Le Dauphin de Guiraud<\/strong>\u00a0\" with an annual production of around 40,000 bottles, and a dry white wine called \"\u00a0<strong>G de Guiraud<\/strong>\" with an annual production of 70,000 bottles.
