Pomerol appellation<\/strong> has never been officially classified, it does not appear in the official classification of fine Bordeaux wines<\/strong><\/a> of 1855. So today we offer you a classification of the wines of Pomerol<\/strong> made by us. It's not official, but it does give you a good idea of the work done by these ch\u00e2teaux over the last 20 years. The principle is simple: the wines are judged on the average of their scores. Robert Parker <\/strong>over the last 21 vintages. We'll judge the average wines from 1995 to 2016 and present the top 20 Pomerol ch\u00e2teaux with the best rankings.<\/p>\n

Petrus<\/strong>property of\u00a0\u00c9tablissement Jean-Pierre Moueix<\/em>is a winegrowing estate in\u00a0Pomerol<\/strong>near Bordeaux. The vineyard covers 11.5 hectares and produces around 30,000 bottles a year. Unfortunately, the\u00a0Pomerol wines<\/strong>\u00a0have never been classified. However, the\u00a0Petrus<\/strong>\u00a0is recognized as one of the most\u00a0fine Bordeaux wines<\/strong>just like the\u00a0premiers grands crus class\u00e9s<\/a><\/strong>. Without doubt the most\u00a0prestigious<\/strong>\u00a0from\u00a0vins de France<\/strong>. Prestige reinforced by the small number of bottles put on the market in relation to demand. The miraculous combination of an exclusively clay soil and good exposure is the key to this phenomenon.\u00a0Petrus<\/strong>. There's no need to dwell on the method of harvesting, which is concentrated over three or four afternoons to avoid the morning dew. The prodigy is measured in the bottle and in the market price of the wine.<\/p>\n

Emblematic Bordeaux wines. Le\u00a0Ch\u00e2teau L'\u00c9gliset-Clinet\u00a0<\/strong>began in 1882. Today, the great visionary and talented winemaker Denis Durantou has developed the vineyard to the summit of the Pomerol AOC. Recent vintages have been one success after another. The vines are planted on a terroir of clay and gravel-clay. Vinification is carried out to perfection, with rigor and precision. Both classic and modern in spirit, these are great wines for laying down, needing at least 10 years to reach their golden age. Great hope, great potential and great passion for this fine ch\u00e2teau.<\/p>\n

The average of this ch\u00e2teau is considered over the last 10 vintages, since it belongs to the P\u00e9r\u00e9-Verg\u00e9 vineyards. A small estate in the heart of Pomerol, a dream terroir. The Ch\u00e2teau owes its renaissance to the late Catherine P\u00e9r\u00e9-Verg\u00e9. She also owned Ch\u00e2teaux Le Gay and Montvie. A temperamental woman with a passion for great wines. Ch\u00e2teau Le Pin<\/b>\u00a0is a Bordeaux wine from the Pomerol appellation. The exceptionally small estate is located on the Gironde estuary on the right bank of the commune of Pomeroldans the hamlet of Catusseau and its wine is frequently one of the most expensive red wines in the world. The vineyards extend over 5 hectares (2.0 ha) of sandy gravel over limestone bedrock, with a grape variety of 100% Merlot, the vines averaging 38 years old. Typically, 600 to 700 cases are produced per year, although in 2003, no wine was produced due to the drought and heat wave that year.<\/p>\n

Covering 14 hectares in a single block, the Vieux Ch\u00e2teau Certan vineyard is divided into 23 independently-managed plots, according to soil type, grape variety and vine age. With a wide variety of nuances, the soils are made up of a very clayey part planted mainly with Merlot (70%), a clay-gravel part planted with Cabernet Franc (25%) and a very gravelly part planted with Cabernet Sauvignon (5%). The average age of the vines in relation to the surface area is 50 years. These older vines, combined with the microclimate of the Pomerol plateau, enable optimal ripening of the different grape varieties.<\/p>\n

The L\u00e9glise family, originally from Libourne\u00a0<\/strong>is at the origin of Ch\u00e2teau L'\u00c9vangile. In the mid-18th century, it played an active role in the development of Pomerol's vineyards. L'\u00c9vangile appears on the 1741 land register under the name Fazilleau. In 1990, Domaines Barons de Rothschild (Lafite) acquired L'\u00c9vangile from the Ducasse family, with a view to ensuring continuity of care and sustainability. The influence of DBR (Lafite) is first reflected in a more refined selection of the grand vin and the creation of Blason de L'\u00c9vangile as a second wine. Efforts have also focused on the health of the vines, with a restoration and partial renewal plan launched in 1998. The complete renovation of the vat room and cellars, completed in 2004, has enabled the estate to finalize its new configuration.<\/p>\n

Sylviane Garcin-Cathiard took over the Clos De l'\u00c9glise estate in January 1997. Situated on a hillside at the break of the famous Pomerol plateau. The 6 hectares of vines are planted with 57% of Merlot, 36% of Cabernet Franc and 7% of Cabernet Sauvignon on gravelly clay soil with iron dross deposits that give Pomerol wines their distinctive character.<\/p>\n

Louis Nicolas' successors - Francis and Bernard - have been clever enough to combine tradition with modern winemaking methods. The vat room, for example, has been refurbished and equipped with the latest technological refinements; however, no filtering is used, and the wine is aged in new barrels, the proportion of which is determined by the quality of the vintage.<\/p>\n

Ch\u00e2teau Gazin is the largest of Pomerol's finest crus, with 26.26 hectares of clay-gravel terroir on the plateau. Yield is 80,000 bottles a year. The owner is Nicolas de Bailliencourt, who produces, with passion and regularity, an exceptional wine in a classic style, which ages incredibly well, a gran vin de garde.<\/p>\n

A smaller estate than the others in Pomerol, but in just over a decade, this grand cru has risen to the top of the Pomerol appellation. A superbly situated terroir of gravel on clay, adjacent to Clinet and Latour. Added to this is a great man, J\u00e9r\u00e9my Chasseuil, who has been managing the estate since 2000, and looks after the vinifications with talent and passion. His wines are distinct and deep, and their respect for fruit is evident in their taste.<\/p>\n

This cru is managed by the Moueix estate. It is located in the heart of the AOC Pomerol plateau, on characteristic soils of clay and gravel. It has already produced extraordinary wines, equaling, deepening and competing with many of Bordeaux's great classified growths.<\/p>\n

Unlike the great ch\u00e2teaux of the M\u00e9doc, the vineyards are not all in one piece, but spread over 21 registered plots. This mosaic of identities gives the wine all its complexity: density of color, delicacy of bouquet, the mellowness of Pomerols, but also the generous, full-bodied character borrowed from Saint-\u00c9milion.<\/p>\n

In association with the great oenologist Michel Rolland, and with all her attention paid to the vines, this grand cru has been transformed, evolved, to achieve unprecedented quality. Vinification is carried out entirely in barrels, producing generous, modern wines for the greatest enthusiasts and lovers of fleshy Pomerols. Mr Henri Parent, Catherine P\u00e9r\u00e9-Verg\u00e9's son, now manages the estate with brio.<\/p>\n

The vineyards of\u00a0ch\u00e2teau La Fleur de Gay<\/strong>\u00a0The entire two-hectare estate lies on the high terrace of Pomerol. The three parcels of Ch\u00e2teau La Fleur de Gay's vineyard - La Fleur, Gay and Groupey - with their geological or edaphological (agrological, pedological) differences, represent three complementary and synergistic expressions in the blending of this terroir of \"exceptional viticultural aptitude\" that is the high Gunz terrace, \"the oldest and highest terrace in the Libourne region (38 to 40 meters above sea level)\".<\/p>\n

Of Scottish origin, the de May family settled in France in the Middle Ages, and as a reward for their courage, were offered the Fief de Certan by the King of France. One of Pomerol's very first vineyards, the ch\u00e2teau was managed by the De May family until 1925, when it was acquired by the Barreau family. Situated on the highest part of the Pomerol plateau and enjoying a south-easterly exposure, Ch\u00e2teau Certan de May is surrounded by illustrious neighbors such as Vieux Ch\u00e2teau Certan and Ch\u00e2teau La Fleur-P\u00e9trus. The wine owes its great complexity to the clay and gravel soils on which the vines are planted, with an average age of 35 years: the clay brings power and the gravel brings elegance. The balance of Ch\u00e2teau Certan de May wines illustrates the unique complementarity of these terroirs. The vineyard, perfectly managed by the Barreau family and vinified with the help of Michel Rolland until 2012, then Jean-Claude Berrouet since the 2013 vintage, is recognized worldwide.<\/p>\n
