Le <strong>Puligny<\/strong> is home to the entire <strong>Bienvenues-B\u00e2tard-Montrachet <\/strong>and <strong>Chevalier-Montrachet<\/strong>. A classic Puligny has two things going for it: the magical precision of its floral bouquet, far more delicate than that of Meursault or Chassagne, and that inflexible straightness that runs through the wine from one end to the other when it is well vinified.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p>Visit<strong>\u00a0Chassagne-Montrachet<\/strong>\u00a0is classified as one of the 57 premier cru appellations of the C\u00f4te de Beaune vineyards. It covers 440 ha and produces around 5,000 hl of red and 3,000 hl of white.\u00a0<b>Chassagne - which in 1789 won the right to add<\/b>\u00a0<strong>Chassagne-Montrachet<\/strong>is a village in the French department of\u00a0<strong>Gold Coast<\/strong>and a small part of Remigny, in Sa\u00f4ne-et-Loire. The commune of\u00a0<strong>Chassagne-Montrachet<\/strong>\u00a0suffers from the notoriety of its famous neighbor,\u00a0<strong>Puligny-Montrachet<\/strong>with which it shares\u00a0<strong>two grands crus<\/strong>\u00a0the\u00a0<strong>Montrachet<\/strong>\u00a0and the\u00a0<strong>B\u00e2tard-Montrachet<\/strong>. This neighbourhood of\u00a0<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.comptoirdesmillesimes.com\/puligny-montrachet\">Puligny<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong>is reflected in the characteristics of the white wines: firm but never hard. The only\u00a0<strong>grand cru<\/strong>\u00a0located entirely on its territory,\u00a0<strong>criots-b\u00e2tard-montrachet<\/strong>The average size of the vineyard is just 1.6 hectares. In its veins undoubtedly flow some colluvium from the Nuits stratum, descended from the chevalier, but this is a royal plasma. There are 4.01 ha on Puligny and 3.99 ha on Chassagne-Montrachet.<\/span><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h6><strong>Batard-Montrachet - <span style=\"color: #800000;\">Shared between Puligny and Chassagne<\/span><\/strong><\/h6>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">5 ha of vines at Chassagne, for almost 4 ha at Puligny. Located below Montrachet, the soil is deeper and heavier than that of Bienvenues, if not identical. B\u00e2tard-Montrachet is known for being rich, full and sometimes even heavy and solid.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h6><strong>Chevalier-Montrachet - <span style=\"color: #800000;\">Only in Puligny<\/span><\/strong><\/h6>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Le Chevalier lies just above Montrachet. It is considered the noblest appendage of its prestigious neighbor. Le Chevalier may be next door to Montrachet, but the differences between them are striking. Visually, Le Chevalier is higher up the slope, where the air is cooler. The soil is thinner on the slope, and this is reflected in the wine's shallower depth. Conversely, its stonier terroir gives the wine that intense minerality that defines a great Chevalier.<\/span><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h6><strong>Bienvenues-Batard-Montrachet -<span style=\"color: #800000;\"> Only in Puligny<\/span><\/strong><\/h6>\n<p>The vineyard forms a rectangle in the northeast corner of B\u00e2tard-Monrachet, just below the vines on the right. The first mention of this vineyard dates back to 1397. It appears in the archives of the Abbey of Maizi\u00e8res, which purchased \"welcome vines\" in 1397 and 1418, as Jean-Fran\u00e7ois Bazin points out.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h6><strong>Criots-Batard-Montrachet -<span style=\"color: #800000;\"> Only on Chassagne<\/span><\/strong><\/h6>\n<p>This small climat extends the Chassagne side of B\u00e2tard-Montrachet to the south. A very rare wine these days. With more pebbles and less clay in the soil than B\u00e2tard, criots show more elegance, but also a little less substance and ageing capacity.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h4><\/h4>\n<h4>\u2662 Domaine de la Roman\u00e9e Conti<\/h4>\n<p>Visit\u00a0<strong>Domaine de la Roman\u00e9e-Conti\u00a0<\/strong>also known by the abbreviation \"DRC\", is the flagship image of the Grands Vins de la C\u00f4te d'Azur.\u00a0<strong>Burgundy<\/strong>. The estate is well known for its great red wines in the Vosne-Roman\u00e9e AOC. In Montrachet, they produce a B\u00e2tard-Montrachet which is not available for sale, only a few bottles for the owners' personal consumption. On the other hand, they do produce a Montrachet Grands Crus, highly coveted by wine enthusiasts. Le\u00a0<strong>domaine Blain Gagnard<\/strong>\u00a0The grapes are ploughed between the rows, crushed then pressed for the whites, settled, fermented in barrel, stirred on the lees, racked once, then rested in stainless steel vats and bottled for the whites just before the next vintage. The reds benefit from minimal extraction, in order to tame the often uncompromising tannins of the grapes.\u00a0<strong>Chassagne<\/strong>. The secret of\u00a0<em>Jean-Marc Blain<\/em>\u00a0is therefore based less on its originality than on its personality, which shines through in every decision taken in the vineyard or winery, always striving for elegance rather than power. The three cousins, Bernard, Marc and Michel Colin-Deleger, are now all more or less retired. Visit <strong>Marc Colin estate <\/strong>is now run by three of the children, Caroline, Joseph and Damien, while the eldest, Pierre-Yves, has set up his own business. The Labruy\u00e8re family took over the estate in 2006. The team is made up of oenologist Nadine Gublin, Martin Prieur, a descendant of the Prieur family, and Mr. Edouard Labruy\u00e8res, who heads the management team. A superb sunny terroir, facing east, for the Montrachet Grand Cru vineyard. The soil is thin and stony. The parcel of <strong>Montrachet<\/strong> covers 60 ares. It produces superb wines with a golden or even silvery color, depending on the vintage. A nose of great purity and precision, with hints of menthol and aniseed. On the palate, you'll appreciate the wine's minerality, density and refinement, with an imposing finish. His son Andr\u00e9 accompanied him for a time, but the next generation, No\u00ebl and Jean-Claude Ramonet, really took over. The reds are consistent and exciting. They develop fruit of the same quality as that found in<strong> C\u00f4te de Nuits<\/strong>In theory, it would be possible to obtain this at Chassagne too, but we rarely see it in practice. The whites each have their own personality, and you may be pleasantly surprised by the minty notes on the first nose.
