Product description

Grande Sendrée 2009 - Champagne Drappier

94/100 Parker

Maturity: 2020 - 2035

Reviewed by William Kelley on April 30, 2020 :

"Disgorged in January 2019 with a dosage of four grams per litre, the 2009 Brut Grande Sendrée is still a little tight after its recent disgorgement, but it already shows promise for the future. It offers a complex bouquet of crisp yellow orchard fruit, honeycomb, quinine, stone fruits, and freshly baked bread. It is full-bodied, deep and layered, with racy acids, a crunchy stone fruit core, and a penetrating, delicately chalky finish. It may not have as much long-term potential as the 2008, but it will reach its peak of expressiveness sooner. Every time I taste La Grande Sendrée, I wonder if Drappier is not the most underrated house in Champagne".

"La Grande Sendrée is the name of an archipelago of plots on Kimmeridgian pencils, covered with ashes after the fire that ravaged Urville in 1836. In a unique Louis XV bottle, Pinot Noir and Chardonnay reveal themselves at their highest level. »

Tasting:

The month of August preceding the 2009 harvest is hot, dry and marked by cool nights, excellent conditions for a good maturation. Notes of pear and citrus fruit from the Chardonnay, and peach from the vines for the Pinot Noir. A beautiful year faithful to this great wine.

Service :

Ideal as an aperitif. Perfect with a poached turbot with hollandaise sauce, a carpaccio of scallops, a rack of lamb with foie gras, a Bresse poultry truffled with cream, a comté d'alpage 18 months minimum. Serve at 8°c.
