La Janasse, a history...
After his military service in 1967, Aimé took over the vineyards from his father, who brought the wines to the cooperative, and from his grandfather, who sold the wines through the negociants. In 1973, he built his own winery, and from this was born the Domaine de la Janasse, named after the family farm in Courthézon, at a place called "La Janasse". Loving his ambition, he never stopped expanding the estate by buying new plots: from 15 hectares, the estate now covers 90 hectares. In 1991, after completing a BTA in viticulture and oenology in Beaune and a BTS in marketing in Mâcon, Christophe Sabon took over the running of the estate, following in his father's footsteps. Under his direction, the evolution of Janasse is quickly noticed: the appearance of different cuvées and new markets. In 2001, his sister Isabelle, an oenologist with a degree from Toulouse University, joined the team. With Aimé's wife Hélène, Christophe and Isabelle's mother, the estate became one of the most emblematic of Châteauneuf-du-Pape in just a few years.
Some 50 hectares - many of them Grenache - enable the Sabons to assert their expertise. This prestigious estate offers a wide range of cuvées. In this article, we present the best vintages of the finest cuvées.
