petrus flower 2007

Visit Château La Fleur Petrus takes its name from its nearest neighbors. The vineyard is less than a stone's throw from Petrus. You can take a stroll around Château Lafleur, which is also adjacent to the vineyards of La Fleur-Petrus.

Castle presentation

In 1953, Château La Fleur Petrus was purchased by Jean-Pierre Moueix from the Garret family. Prior to this sale, it had been owned by numerous proprietors, including the Arnaud family, who also owned Petrus. Château La Fleur Petrus expanded its landholding in 1994, when it added 4 hectares of old vines to its Pomerol vineyard. These vines were obtained once again from their famous neighbor, Château Le Gay.

Chateau La Fleur Petrus great vintages

  • Château La Fleur-Pétrus 2009

97/100 Robert Parker December 23, 2011

"Even with its considerable juvenile characteristics, this superb and open La Fleur-Pétrus 2009 is quite accessible. This legendary terroir, sandwiched between Petrus and Lafleur (hence the name), generally produces one of the finest wines in the world. Pomerol the most elegant, but in 2009 it offers an extra dimension of flavor intensity as well as more texture and concentration. It reveals a super-seductive perfume of mocha, loamy earth, herbs, black cherries and cassis, truffles and licorice, full body and velvety tannins. The overall impression is one of intensity, power, glycerin and richness, as well as elegance."

Tasting suggestion: This 2009 can be drunk now or cellared for another 20-25 years.

  • Château La Fleur-Pétrus 2010

97/100 Robert Parker February 28, 2013

"This wine has a similar character to its street-side neighbor, Petrus, displaying sweet blackberry and intense black fruit characteristics, with a hint of vanillin and black cherry jam. Full-bodied, extravagant and succulent, with a skyscraper mid-palate and phenomenal length of nearly 50 seconds, the wine reveals plenty of tannin, but the voluptuous fruit, power and overall glycerin conceal much of it. Elegant yet irresistibly rich and authoritative, the Château La Fleur-Petrus 2010 is a truly magnificent wine. This 2010 is one of the most remarkable wines ever produced at this estate."

Tasting suggestion: Drink now or cellar for 25-30 years.

  • Château La Fleur-Pétrus 2015

96/100 Lisa Perroti-Brown February 21, 2018

"A blend of 92% Merlot, 7.5% Cabernet Franc and 0.5% Petit Verdot, the 2015 Fleur-Petrus is a little reticent on the nose, offering seductive notes of tilled earth, black olives, charcuterie and dried Provence herbs. Core of candied plums, black cherries and black raspberries with hints of tar and new leather. Full-bodied, rich, mellow and seductive on the palate, it finishes with persistent, revealing earthy/salty layers that will keep you reaching for another glass."

Best served between 2022 and 2045.

  • Château La Fleur-Pétrus 2012

96/100 Neal Martin October 28, 2016

"Blind tasting to tasting Southwold Bordeaux. Fleur Pétrus 2012 has a fresh, minty bouquet, vigorous and lively, with notes of red cherry, raspberry and blackcurrant underpinned by a layer of damp limestone. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannins. This is a more restrained Pomerol, but there's a real nuance here, black truffle and leather tinting the introspective black fruit. But behind that, there's harmony and finesse, despite the impressive length and staying power. It may be slightly outdone by the sensational Trotanoy, but Pomerol lovers can enjoy this fantastic La Fleur-Petrus from the JP Moueix team. Tasted in January 2016."

Best served between 2022 and 2045.

  • Château La Fleur-Pétrus 2017

94-96/100 Lisa Perroti-Brown April 27, 2018

"A final blend of 91% Merlot, 6% Cabernet Franc and 3% Petit Verdot, the very deep garnet-colored Fleur-Petrus 2017 has a rather earthy nose, notions of black soil, mossy bark and truffle over a core of cassis, blackberry and plum preserves as well as notes of espresso, anise and peppercorns. Medium- to full-bodied, firm, grainy and with great freshness, the robust frame supports generous black and blue fruits with earthy accents and fantastic length."

Best before: This wine is still very young. Wait at least 10 years before removing it from your cellar.

  • Château La Fleur-Pétrus 2008

95/100 Robert Parker May 2, 2011

La Fleur Petrus 2008 (90% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Franc) is a sumptuous, opulent wine that transcends vintage character. Its dense plum/ruby/purple color is accompanied by notes of sweet black cherry, licorice, truffle and a hint of graphite. Full-bodied with silky tannins and undeniable appeal, richness, purity and a 40+ second finish, this is a big buy in 2008. Drink it over the next 20 years."

Best served now or up to 2031.

  • Château La Fleur-Pétrus 1950

95/100 Robert Parker in 1998

"This is an old and exceptional wine. Extremely dense and opaque in color, with no signs of age, the nose offered oriental spices, including aromas of soy, licorice and black fruits. On the palate, the wine is dense, mellow and exceptionally rich."

Best if drunk immediately.

  • Château La Fleur-Pétrus 2014

94/100 Neal Martin March 31, 2017

"The 2014 Fleur Petrus is impressive in barrel and continues to show quality in bottle. It has a lovely, engaging bouquet with redcurrant and cranberry, superb minerality and energy, real concentration and a sense of driving in situ. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannins, a sense of symmetry and balance from start to finish. It may have turned out a little more elegant and feminine than I'd expected, less bullish than the Hosanna. But there's real complexity on the finish, with black pepper and clove lingering on the aftertaste. It's superb."

Recommended tasting date: from 2020 to 2045

  • Château La Fleur-Pétrus 1998

94/100 Lisa Perrotti-Brown May 31, 2018

"Tasted from a magnum, the Fleur-Petrus 1998 has seductive notes of hoisin sauce, charcuterie, cigar box, sandalwood and potpourri with a core of dried blackberry, kirsch, plum and menthol with hints of tobacco, fig and leather. Soft and satiny textured in the medium- to full-bodied palate, it has earthy bags and cassis frapp aromas that highlight dried berries and earthy layers, finishing with a spicy lift."

Recommended tasting date: From now until 2035

  • Château La Fleur-Pétrus 2000

93+/100 Robert Parker June 29, 2010

I'm not convinced that the 2000 La Fleur Petrus will eclipse the 1998, which did even better in a recent tasting. Nevertheless, it's a terrific effort from this estate, sandwiched between the hallowed vines of Petrus and Lafleur. A deep plum/ruby color is followed by aromas of mocha, kirsch liqueur, loamy soil, spice box and licorice. It's opulent, medium- to full-bodied, big, substantial but elegant, precise, with lovely purity. It's just starting to drink well and should continue to age for another 10+ years. One of the two bottles I tasted was corked.

Recommended drinking date: Drink now through 2020.

Wine and vineyards

Visit Château La Fleur Petrus is an elegant, sensual, finesse Bordeaux wine from Pomerol that, in some years, has the capacity to age and improve gracefully for decades. Château La Fleur Petrus' 18.7-hectare Pomerol vineyard is composed of 91% Merlot, 6% Cabernet Franc and 3% Petit Verdot. This marks a big change in the vineyard, which was 80% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Franc until around 2012. Located on the northern slope of the Pomerol plateau, the La Fleur Petrus vineyard can be divided into 3 main blocks, made up of several smaller plots. To the north, you'll find more gravel. In the south of the vineyard is where you find more clay and in the middle of their vines, you have a slightly warmer micro-climate with more gravel. Situated on the famous Pomerol plateau, at its highest point the vineyard rises to 38 meters.
