We'd like to introduce you to one of our partner estates: the Charvin estate. A family present in Provence, in Orange, since 1550, who subsequently moved to the plots of what became the current Domaine Charvin in 1851, bringing together several parcels of land including 4 hectares of vines. The family produced their own wine, which they then sold to the wine trade. In 1990, Elie Charvin and his wife took over the management of Domaine Charvin. She looked after the vineyard on her own while her husband was immobilized during the First World War. Over the years, the vineyard grew with Gerard Charvin, who found himself in charge of 20 hectares when he took over the family inheritance at the end of 1960.

1990 marks the start of a new era for Domaine Charvin. Laurent arrived at the domaine on completion of his studies, and the company terminated its contract with its usual négociant, bottling its own wine for the first time. Thanks to the positive comments of the famous wine taster Robert Parker, the cuvées are a success on the export market. The estate later converts to organic farming. The domaine is located in Châteauneuf-du-Pape's beautiful neighborhoods, and produces classic wines with no de-stemming, aged in concrete vats, while retaining power and finesse.

The estate today

The estate manages two appellations: AOC Châteauneuf du pape and AOC Côtes du Rhône. Vinification is carried out with 100 % whole bunches, and the wine is aged in cement vats for 18 months for the two reds, without fining or filtration. The estate is located in the northern sector of Châteauneuf du Pape, and the Côtes du Rhône vineyards occupy the Châteauneuf du Pape not far from the vineyard. The Vin de Pays vineyards cover 2 ha. Located north of Châteauneuf-du-Pape, Laurent Charvin is the manager of this family estate, with vineyards of just 8 hectares. The average age of the vineyards is over 50 years, the oldest being nearly 80. Laurent Charvin describes his vineyards as fresh for Châteauneuf, as their vines are mostly planted on north-facing sandy slopes. Certified organic.

Charvin produces finely-styled Grenache-based wines of great depth and finesse (around 80% of Grenache for each wine, with small quantities of Vacaresse and Mourvèdre, as well as small quantities of Carignan and Bourboulenc for the Côtes du Rhône). Vinification is traditional, with no destemming, and all aging takes place in cement vats. No wood is used to elevate any of the wines. There are no secrets here, just old vines, very low yields and minimal viticultural intervention. Côtes du Rhône wines are consistently ranked among the best in the region.

Visit vintage 2018 Quantities are among the lowest ever recorded for this region, particularly in the northern sector of Châteauneuf du Pape, with very heavy spring rains and little mistral wind. Yields were considerably reduced in volume, affected by mildew due to the exceptionally wet and humid weather, reducing yields from 30 to 55%. After a very hot, dry June and July, the first week of August brought heavy rain before a cool, dry September with dry weather and cool nights, producing wines with beautiful aromas, freshness and elegance.

  • Domaine Charvin Châteauneuf du Pape Rouge :

Visit Domaine Charvin Châteauneuf du Pape is a barrel-aged red wine made from the red Syrah, Carignan, Grenache and Mourvèdre grapes grown by Domaine Charvin in the prestigious Rhône AOC Châteauneuf-du-pape appellation. This is one of the leading wine estates in Châteauneuf du Pape. A classic, traditional and elegant style that has made it unique, thanks in part to its location in one of the coolest areas of the appellation, and in part to the talent and perseverance of its mentor, Laurent Charvin. Although it's direct, it doesn't lose the purity and elegance of the distinctive seal. Charvin. This is a concentrated red wine with complex aromas of red fruit and dried flowers, and abundant minerality. The palate is silky, enveloping and very elegant. Velvety tannins and an excellent, long, persistent finish. Very good evolution in bottle.

  • Domaine Charvin Châteauneuf du Pape Blanc :

Châteauneuf du Pape Blanc has lime sorbet scents, notions of orange and pear, and round, full-bodied flavors on the palate accompanied by just enough freshness to give it life and length on the finish. It's an interesting blend of 90% Clairette Rose and 10% Bourboulenc, made entirely in stainless steel.
