The partner estate we're about to discuss comes from a generation of winegrowers who have been handed down from father to son for almost 11 generations. It is the Domaine Raquillet. The estate was taken over in 1990 by François Raquillet and his wife Emmanuelle. A passionate winegrower, he has succeeded in raising the estate to the very top. In this article, I'll tell you about the estate's 5 emblematic cuvées.
Details of exceptional vintages:
In this part of the article dedicated to cuvées, we'll talk about : Mercurey Vieilles Vignes Rouge , Mercurey Vieilles Vignes blanc , Mercurey premier cru les Veleys blanc , Mercurey premier cru Les Veleys rouge and finally Mercurey premier cru les vasées.
-
Mercurey Vieilles Vignes Rouge:
This wine may come from old vines, but it's made in a gourmet way, with notes of fresh fruit and a smooth, creamy texture. The main grape variety is Pinot Noir, and the appellation for this cuvée is Mercurey. This cuvée comes from three parcels located between south and east: les Chazeaux, les Orneaux and le Meix. The average age of the vines is 60 years. It offers aromas of spicy cherries, berries and raw cocoa, framed by a deft touch of oak. It's also velvety and enveloping, with lively acids, melted tannins and a fleshy core of fruit.
-
Mercurey Vieilles Vignes Blanc :
This cuvée tends to be enjoyed young on the fruit, thanks to the finesse of its main grape variety, Chardonnay. The average age of the vines is 40 years. It offers aromas of pear, citrus oil and wheat toast, as well as being round and succulent, with ripe but lively acids and a charming, giving profile. This wine is best drunk young.
-
Mercurey Premier Cru les Veleys Red :
The main grape variety is Pinot Noir, with an average vine age of 65 years. This cuvée is very promising and, with a little ageing, could be even better. It blends aromas of wild berries, blackcurrant, coniferous forest floor and spicy new oak. It's velvety and layered, with lively acids, powdery tannins and a penetrating finish. It remains a little strained after bottling, but will fill a year or two of patience.
-
Mercurey Premier Cru les Veleys Blanc :
Bringing together aromas of pear and peach with notes of wheat toast and almond, it is fleshy and enveloping with a core of ripe fruit, lively acids and a charming, open profile, this wine is best enjoyed young.
-
Mercurey Premier Cru Les Vaseys :
This is a fairly reserved cuvée after a fairly recent bottling. It offers aromas of blackcurrant, wild plums and spicy new oak, followed by a bright, lively palate, very nicely balanced but also a little introverted at the moment. This is the result we can't wait to discover after two or three years in the cellar.
