  • What are the best vintages of Cristal Roederer champagne?

Before we talk about vintages, here's a quick explanation of what the Roederer house is all about.
Louis Roederer inherited the Champagne house in 1833. A visionary with a passion for wine, he expanded his vineyards and took control of the entire Champagne production process. The Roederer taste and style were born. The Roederer crystal bottle was born in the 1870s. Louis Roederer loved to travel, and went as far as Russia, where his champagne was served at the table of Tsar Alexander II. The latter was so fond of the Champagne House's prestige cuvée that he asked to reserve Louis Roederer's finest production every year. It was this request that gave birth to the name "Cristal".
Several generations followed, and today the 7th generation, represented by Frédéric Rouzaud, runs the company with the same high standards of quality.

  • TOP HISTORICAL MILLENNIUM: Maison Roeder

Many vintages are fantastic at Maison Roederer, as they have 100% control over the production of their grapes as well as the elaboration in the cellars. As a result, they are able to extract the very best from their nectar every year.
1959 will go down in history. The vintage was fantastic in Champagne, and this year's Pinot Noir blended with Chardonnay will be just sublime. Unfortunately, it is difficult, if not impossible, to find this bottle on the market.
1988, 1989, 1990 As in the rest of the French vineyard, the three Glorieuses will take their quintessential toll on Cristal Roederer champagnes, with an anthological 1990 vintage.
2008 is a great vintage. The dry, cool weather will allow for quality vinification. The 60 % of Pinot noir will provide a complex, intense bouquet, and the Chardonnay will complete the picture with light notes of William pear and toasted almonds.
2012, one of the most complicated vintages to produce in Champagne. And yet it produced great things. Yields were low and the vagaries of the weather will force us to make certain decisions, but the result will be a powerful, structured and concentrated Champagne.

  • What to eat with Cristal Roederer champagne?

Even if the vintage plays its part in the style of each bottle, Cristal Roederer champagne always remains delicate, with fine bubbles and, depending on the vintage, a more or less dense and concentrated palate. As always, freshness and delicacy of taste are paramount, which is why we recommend pairing young champagnes with white fish dishes.
On warmer vintages, you can easily choose the company of creamy poultry, and on older vintages, mushrooms or truffles will be perfect.
