What is the Montille estate?

This family is originally from Créancey in theAuxois with the Lords of Commeau. In the words of Hubert de MontilleThe estate was created in 1730. After the marriage of Marie Eléonore Chauvelot de Chevannes and Etienne Joseph-Marie Léonce Bizouard from Montille the grandfather d'hubertthe estate was renamed from Montille April 9, 1863. Grandfather, as he was known in those days, "Montille", spent his time between the domains of Volnay and from Créancey in addition to the farming company he created. In those days, wealth was not recognized. These riches include more than twenty hectares of magnificent terroirs cultivated with Pinot Noir in the Côte de Beaune, but also on the Côte en nuit with Musigny, Bonnes Mares and Chambolle-Musigny 1. er Cru  "the Lovers ". Today, these vineyards are the stuff of dreams.

Hubert's arrival on the estate takes another turn. He leads a life between the vine and the law. But he remains a great wine enthusiast, as he can remember all the vintages in his head. In the 1950s, the Hubert de Montille confirms its identity. In the words of Étienne : "My father is a man of character and taste. He quickly realized that he wanted to make wines that he liked, not wines that were just for him. sell". During this period, 90 % of the region's wines were in a period of negotiation, with small estates trying to make a name for themselves by making completely deferred wines.

Etienne gradually began to follow in his father's footsteps, but his father insisted that his son first learn a real trade, always in the legal world, to respect the family tradition. Over time, Etienne, with his father's help, adapted to the vinification process, until 2001, when he returned to the château to look after the vines. Then, in 2003, he did his utmost to enlarge the estate to produce exceptional vines. But above all, his priority is to bring the estate back to the Côte de Nuit, to the heart of the region. Clos-Vougeotin Vosne-Romanée, right next to La Tâche.

Today, the estate has a surface area of 35 hectares, 75 of which are %. First and Grands Crus on both Côtes.
