The discovery of a rare Domaine Huet cellar

Today, we were lucky enough to unearth a magnificent cellar of great wines from the Domaine Huet. It was an astonishing moment. Wines bursting with potential, extremely rare. In particular, the condition of the bottles was incredible. For most of the bottles, it was a pleasant surprise: some have magnificent levels, intact capsules and labels that have stood the test of time.

Yes, you've guessed it, this is a cellar filled with old vintages of Domaine Huet wines. You'll find 60 references of old vintages from Domaine Huet. Domaine Huet in Vouvray is one of the few world-renowned producers in the Loire Valley. Its reputation was built by Gaston Huet, born in 1910, and Le Haut Lieu, a unique vineyard purchased by his parents in 1928 with three hectares of vines, all Chenin Blanc.

So it's time to introduce you to the finest nuggets from this magnificent cellar that Comptoir des Millésimes has unearthed for you!

Three great Domaine Huet vintages from the 1989 vintage

domaine huet grandes cuvees millesime 1989

Vouvray Huet "Cuvée Constance" Sweet 1989

This vintage is unrated.

Tasting this dessert wine is sublime. It's so captivating, pure, concentrated and complex that it's almost impossible to describe it properly. Its straw-green color reveals hints of gold. Aromatically, it titillates with aromas of apricot jam, candied grapefruit, quince, bergamot and flowers. On the palate, there are notes of peach, citrus, honey, acacia flowers, quinine, chalk and mango. What's more, this penetrating yet perfectly balanced medium-bodied wine has a seemingly persistent finish, revealing even more waves of minerals and fruit. It's a long-keeping wine that will surprise you at every tasting.

Vouvray " Le Haut-Lieu " Moelleux 1ere Trie 1989

Rated 98/100 by Stephan Reinhardt | Wine Advocate, Nov. 30, 2015

"Delicately clean, intense fruit, but not yet too strong. Nobly elegant and perfectly balanced with precise aromas of dried apricots and ripe peaches interwoven with subtle spicy, mineral and chalky notes. Soft and superbly harmonious on the very elegant palate, with a silky, well-concentrated texture, this full-bodied Chenin, superbly concentrated with fruit and enlivened from the first pluck of dried berries, has a perfect, sensual fluidity and reveals incredible generosity, finesse and delicacy. This is a superbly balanced sweet wine with an intriguing concentration of fruit and finesse. Ideal for drinking on its own or with foie gras or lobster. According to Noël Pinguet, there was no botrytis in 1989; the berries were dried on the vines. Monsieur Pinguet says it's the best vintage he's ever made, right up there with 1947.

Vouvray " Le Mont " Moelleux 1ere Trie 1989

Rated 99/100 by Stephan Reinhardt | Wine Advocate, Nov. 30, 2015

"Luminous golden yellow in color, the ginger-flavored 1989 Vouvray Le Mont Moelleux Première Trie reveals the subtle, aromatic, cool, aristocratic bouquet typical of this lieu-dit, adjacent to the Loire with its greenish marl, flint soils. Very clear and delicate, yet intense and concentrated fruit aromas, as well as chamomile and mineral aromas on the nose, migrate to an extremely elegant and finesse palate with sweet peach aromas and an intense and intense palate, with a stimulating, precise and salty purity of all the endless finishes."

Old vintages of Domaine Huet 1947 & 1959

old millesimes from domaine huet

Vouvray "Le Haut-Lieu" Sweet 1947, the legendary vintage

Rated 100/100 by Stephan Reinhardt | Wine Advocate, Nov. 30, 2015

"From a legendary vintage ("The Loire's most respected vintage of the 20th century" - Richard Kelly), Gaston Huet's dark amber-colored 1947 Vouvray Le Haut Lieu Moelleux opens with a very clean, intense and concentrated bouquet of ultra-ripe peaches, apricots and blood oranges mixed with aromas of fresh lime and cool minerals. Very elegant and noble in its beautiful balance and intensity. Powerful, soft, intense and very rich on the palate, this is an absolutely exceptional wine: dense, intense and full of finesse, with firm yet delicate tannins and endless fruity intensity. The balance, tension and freshness are mind-boggling. The finish is so pure and salty, so firm and intense that this quintessential Chenin Blanc should last another 50 years."

Vouvray "Clos du Bourg" Sweet 1959

Cuvée not rated in this vintage.

One of Domaine Huet's best vintages since 1947. Loire expert Richard Kelley says: "This is more of a passerillage vintage, denoted by a lighter appearance and increased acidity in the wines. In terms of fruitiness, concentration and sweetness, it's more like 2003 than any other vintage.

Rich, thick and unctuous, this soft, smooth white offers complex, extremely well-integrated flavors of apricot, peach, honey, butter, spices and flowers. Incredibly concentrated.

Vouvray " Clos du Bourg " Moelleux 1ere Trie 1990

Rated 97+/100 by Stephan Reinhardt | Wine Advocate, Nov. 30, 2015

"Orange / amber in color with greenish highlights, the Moelleux Première Trie de Vouvray Clos du Bourg 1990 presents a very clean, precise, elegant and flinty bouquet of apricot oil and baked apricots as well as aromas of nougat and Turkish honey. Very intense, rich and concentrated on the palate, with lovely acidity and finesse full of minerality, this is a spectacular mellow wine with lightness, great finesse, vitality, length and complexity. The finish is pure, precise and almost endless in its aromas. Magnificently intense, vital and balanced. A magnificent wine."

Vouvray "Le Mont" Sweet 1st Trie 1990

This vintage is unrated.

A vintage rich in Botrytis. 1990 was an excellent vintage in Vouvray. A very smooth wine with good length. A Vouvray of great finesse and elegance. Notes of dried fruit and stone.

A great vintage from Domaine Huet: 1996

Domaine Huet Vouvray Le mont Moelleux 1996

Vouvray "Le Mont" Sweet 1st Trie 1996

Rated 90/100 by Thomas Matthews | Wine Advocate, December 31, 1998

"This is a very rich, succulent white. It has an almost waxy texture, with sweet aromas of honey, pineapple and dried apricot.

It maintains an underlying, lively acidity and is balanced enough to pair well with many foods. A strong, clean wine."
