Gosset is the oldest wine house in Champagne. Even if the first traces of the Gosset family date back to 1484 with the family's first ancestor, Jean Gosset (seigneur D'Ay et de Mareuil). It wasn't until 1584 that Pierre Gosset, lord and alderman of Aÿ, created the Gosset family wine merchant business. After Pierre Gosset, 16 generations of the Gosset family would go on to build up this magnificent wine merchant's business, and ensure the continuity of the company's expertise. It wasn't until 1993 that Gosset joined the Renaud-Cointreau family group, which has continued to offer the Gosset style to bubble lovers ever since. In addition to his wines, Jean Gosset decided to use a unique bottle in 1760.
In fact, he nicknamed it the flacon antique, which owes its nickname to the antique glass color given to the glass tab used in its composition. Odilon de Varine, an oenologist by training, has been Assistant General Manager since 2006, and is also Cellar Master. He is supported by a team, expertly led by Gabriel Malagu. Together, they perpetuate the inimitable Gosset style of wine. It is based on a plot-by-plot selection from 140 hectares spread over all the Champagne appellations. This wide choice makes it possible to compose the different cuvées while maintaining a recognizable style each year.
Gosset Grande Réserve
Cuvée Gosset Grande Réserve offers elegance, roundness and a fresh finish. This is the cuvée that reflects the style of Gosset wines.
Chardonnay accounts for 45 %, as does Pinot Noir. Pinot Meunier completes the blend with 10 %.
This cuvée is perfect to start an aperitif or a meal. It goes well with fresh, delicate dishes.
Gosset Grand Rosé
Gosset rosé is the house's gourmet touch. It's a special blend, as the house first produces a red wine, which they then use in blending the whites to create a racy, elegant rosé.
Chardonnay accounts for 55 %, while Pinot Noir makes up 37 % of the blend. The remaining 8 % are Pinot Noir red wines from communes that specialize in its production (Ambonnay, Bouzy, Cumières).
This champagne is the Swiss Army knife of the house. It is perfect as an aperitif or at the start of a meal with wild fish or foie gras. But it can also be enjoyed with Asian cuisine, or characterful dishes such as duck breast.
Gosset Grand Blanc de Blanc
The house wanted to create a counterpoint with this cuvée 100 % chardonnay. A counterpoint, since the commune of Aÿ remains the bastion of Pinot Noir, this cuvée will see the light of day in 2011, offering 100 % chardonnay in the Gosset style.
This time, finesse and delicacy are the order of the day. Choose white fish such as scallops or sole. A risotto with Parmesan shavings will enhance this big, round Chardonnay.
Gosset Grand Millésime 2015
Each vintage represents a particular year and climate. As the Gosset style is based on finesse and elegance, for 2015 we had to choose plots where the pinot noir grapes were fine and fresh.
The Chardonnays that complete the blend are selected for their aromatic power and fresh finish.
This aromatic richness and density will make for some interesting pairings. Mediterranean and sunny dishes will be the perfect complement to this 2015 vintage.
Gosset Célèbris 2008
Vintages are very rare at Gosset. This 2008 is the 8th edition in the last 34 years. Only 15,000 bottles of this perfect blend will see the light of day.
The blend is composed of 54 % of Chardonnay and 46 % of Pinot Noir, all cellared from 2009, for 12 years. And it's only after 13 years of maturation that the balance is finally achieved.
The nose is very floral, with notes of white flowers and mimosa. These are accompanied by nuances of juicy fruits such as pear and mirabelle plum.
When it comes to pairing, don't be afraid to go for tasty dishes. Avoid game, however, which could break down the champagne's aromas, but let yourself be guided by white-fleshed poultry or veal grenadin.
Gosset Célèbris Rosé 2008
The 2008 cuvée is only the 4th time Gauthier has achieved such perfection. Like his other cuvée brut, Gosset Celebris rosé 2008 will have waited 13 years in the cellar to reach maturity and balance.
The blend is 72 % of Chardonnay, completed with 28 % of Pinot Noir, including 8 % of red wine.
This cuvee is very interesting, offering luscious notes of red berries and crushed strawberries, complemented by hints of spice and pepper. The nose and palate are equally complex, with the same aromatic profile of wild berries.
Dare to pair with noble shellfish, or rich, powerful sauces. This bottle has no fear of that.
We hope we've enlightened you about this beautiful estate, which will accompany you throughout your meals. We hope you enjoy your meal!
