Visit Jacquesson estate was born in 1798, with the owner Mr. Claude Jacquesson. The Chiquet family began the Jacquesson adventure in 1974 with the purchase of the estate. Initially a broker and winemaker, they decided to settle in Dizy, in the Marne department of the Grand Est region of France. It was here that the prestigious Champagne house was rebuilt. A revival carried out to perfection by the Chiquet brothers, international wine enthusiasts with unrivalled expertise. Jean-Hervé is in charge of sales, while Jean-Laurent is in charge of winemaking.
The history of Champagne Jacquesson
Visit Jacquesson brand was founded in Châlons in 1798 by Memmie Jacquesson, they soon prospered and attracted the attention of Napoleon 1 st, who awarded them a gold medal in 1810 "for the beauty and richness of their cellars". They went on to perfect their production techniques and become one of the world's most renowned champagnes. But the modern story began in 1974, when Jean Chiquet bought the brand. Today, his sons Laurent and Hervé run the estate. The vines are planted in the Grands Crus of Aÿ and Oirzy, and in the Premier Crus of Hautvillers, Dizy and Mareuil-sur-Aÿ. A small quantity of grapes has been purchased in the same crus, as well as in Chouilly and Damery.
Estate presentation
Around 30 hectares located in Avize, Dizy, Aÿ and Hautvillers. Unlike other major houses, production volumes do not swell. And yet, the house's success continues to grow tenfold! The reason? The Jacquesson House prefers to focus on cuvées with strong personalities, made from plot-based vines. The vines the brothers own are on average 30 years old. They attach great importance to working the vines, and have experimented with different planting densities, replanting around 11,000 vines rather than 10,000 vines per hectare. Much of the wine is vinified in oak barrels to control oxidation over the months. All champagnes are dosed extra-brut. The Chiquet brothers' champagnes are original and powerful, clearly marked by their ageing in oak. Complex, generous and persistent, they are always imbued with mineral notes. They are aperitif champagnes for purists, but can be enjoyed throughout a meal. Today, they focus their efforts on an extremely high-quality production of 350,000 bottles, which favors the use of non-industrial production methods and produces champagnes of renown for a good number of gourmets. Until 1999, Brut sans année dominated the entire Champagne region. The Domaine then became independently enriched in this manifesto of the 700.
The important thing is to achieve the best possible blend every year. Parcels, grape varieties, terroir, the heart and soul of the men: the whole estate must come together in a bottle, in the spirit of a vintage, with reserve wines, for a single Champagne, each year different.
The great vintages of Maison Jacquesson
Cuvée 700
The emblematic Jacquesson estate. A unique blend produced by the house. It represents the expression of a year. It has a number instead of a vintage and offers a different profile every year. Half chardonnay and two quarters pinot noir and meunier, from grands crus and premiers crus. This cuvée is also available for late disgorgement.
Cuvée 700 Late Disgorgement
It's a new interpretation of the cuvée. Unlike the non-vintage Brut produced by the majority of champagne houses, whose aim is to have a taste and style of the most perfect regularity, the concept behind Cuvée 700 is to reflect the character of the main year of the blend. It has been developed on the basis of the harvest, and has offered some of the best vintages in recent years. 2008 began with a cool, rainy spring, with numerous frosts, followed by a drier, cooler and windier summer. September was cool, but not very sunny. The blend comprises 53% of Chardonnay, 29 % of Pinot Noir and 18 % of Pinot Meunier. All 700 cuvées are made from grapes from 3 Grands Crus and 2 Premiers Crus, and only the first press juices, vinified in foudres, are used.
Champagne Jacquesson "Dizy Corne Bautray
An energetic champagne. Great complexity. A rather clayey Chardonnay, which shows all its roundness, yet is still sexy. This champagne can be drunk young or for 15 to 20 years! When tasted, this wine opens in the glass with aromas of light honey, dried white flowers, nougat, yellow apple, fresh peach and walnut. Medium to full-bodied, it is elegantly vinous, with a deep core, ripe but racy acids and a chalky aftertaste. This is the most immediate and demonstrative of Jacquesson's lieux-dits (in the 2009 vintage).
Champagne Jacquesson "Avize Champ Caïn
What's the first thing you notice? Its salinity. A chalky-textured Chardonnay. This champagne from Jacquesson is straightforward and structured. You'll notice its tonic bubbles. Disgorged in May 2019 with a dosage of 1.5 grams per liter, this Extra-Brut shows beautifully, floating in the glass with aromas of pears, blanched almonds, freshly baked bread and tangerine. Medium to full-bodied, pillowy and precise, it's elegant and refined, with a precise mousse, discreet depth in the core and a long, chalky finish. Beautifully balanced with minimal dosage, it shows the results that the Jacquesson brothers' viticulture was already delivering over a decade ago.
Champagne Jacquesson Cuvée Aÿ Grand Cru
This cuvée is a tribute to François Hémart. The blend is composed of 70 % Pinot Noir and 30 % Chardonnay. It is aged for 6 months in wood, and owes its name to the memory of an ancestor who settled in Aÿ in the 18th century. This is a full-bodied, harmonious champagne, with a clear sweetness and lovely vanilla notes.
Champagne Jacquesson Avize Grand Cru
The Brut Avize Grand Cru reveals soft, open aromas that lead to a generous core of ripe fruit that blossoms on the palate with highly perfumed, almost candied qualities. This rich, round wine has superb energy and length. It's a wine that's quite approachable at this stage. The blend is 100% Chardonnay from the Champ Gain, La Fosse and Nemery vineyards. Quite simply, this is a magnificent wine.
