We've been waiting ten years for this! The commission presented its conclusions to the national committee today and approved the new classification.. (The Comité National Vins et Eaux de Vie is made up of 7 people representing the wine industry outside the Bordeaux region). Here is the new classification of Saint-Emilion Grands Crus wines :

They boycotted the 2022 ranking

It's this year's big change in the St Emilion wine ranking! After announcing the withdrawal of Cheval Blanc and Ausone in June 2021, the famous Château Angélus also announced at the beginning of January 2022 its wish not to participate in the 2022 classification. In a press release published on January 05, 2022, the owners stated that the classification was "a vector of antagonism and instability". Here are the changes following the boycotts and also the withdrawals following the committee's votes:

The 13 outings in the ranking :

  • Château Angelus - Formerly 1st GCC A, did not wish to take part in the classification
  • Château Ausone - Formerly 1st GCC A, did not wish to take part in the classification
  • Château Cheval Blanc - Formerly 1st GCC A, did not wish to participate in the classification
  • Château La Gaffeliere - Formerly 1st GCC B, did not wish to take part in the classification
  • Château Tertre Daugay, Grand Pontet and Château L'Arrosée: these 3 properties have now become one: Château Quintus.
  • Clos La Madeleine (now part of Château Belair-Monange)
  • Château Quinault l'enclos (belongs to Château Cheval Blanc, did not wish to take part in the classification)
