Gamay: the grape variety of red Beaujolais wines
Visit Gamay grape variety is the best-known, as well as the most famous, red grape variety in the wine-growing area. In fact, it accounts for 97% of this vineyard. The so-called semi-carbonic maceration of this particular grape brings a savory, slightly tannic aroma to wines with a beautiful red color. This pure, fruity grape reveals notes of blackcurrant, raspberry, apple and pear, as well as the spicy flavors of peony and pepper. In Beaujolais, Gamay is vinified on its own to produce all the Beaujolais appellations and grands crus: Brouilly, Moulin-à-vent, FleurieJuliénas,...
Chardonnay: the grape variety of Beaujolais white wines
To produce the 3% of Beaujolais white winesis the Chardonnay grape variety is used. The pretty golden bunches with their white, deliciously sweet juice produce great dry white wines. Their bewitching aromas include notes of citrus, honey and white flowers. This grape variety grows in clay and limestone soils, as in the southern part of the region, in the Pierres Dorées area, but also in the granite soils of the north of the region, around Villefranche-Sur-Saône.
Visit Domaine des Terres Dorées offers a perfect example of chardonnay grape variety with its classic white wine. Fresh, tasty and unctuous, this wine reveals multiple, original flavors such as apple, pineapple and melon.
