Mature

100/100

This vintage of château Mouton-Rothschild is truly one of the immortals of the century. This wine is easily identifiable because of its remarkable qualities: exoticism, overripe, very sweet black fruits, coffee, tobacco, mocha and Asian spices. It's extraordinarily dense, opulent and rich, with layers of creamy fruit. This 1945 jewel is structured, powerful and tannic. The finish surprises with a second screen of ripe fruit, and soft tannins. Will it last another 70 years?

This bottle of Mouton-Rothschild 1959 is one of the world's Sheep. It is undeniable that this Sheep The 1959 represents a richer, more persuasive wine than the 1961. An intense black/purple color, this wine presents a nose of very young blackcurrant, minerals and new oak. It's exceptionally powerful, with the fruit supported by high levels of tannin and vigorous amounts of alcohol. It has a fantastic evolutionary curve and could well be a 100-year-old wine!

A deep garnet-black color. An incredible palette of aromas on the nose: blackberry, black cherry, tobacco, espresso, leather, black olive and silt. The palate is absolutely transparent from start to finish, the layers building effortlessly. One finds a certain complexity in the mouth and leading to a very long finish, between earth and and spices. How can this wine still be improving therefore have no alternative, but concedes perfection.

Drink it now, it will probably be in decline after 2045.

Mature

100/100

This wine remains one of Bordeaux legends. It has discarded the "backward" style that existed in its first 25 years, and has developed secondary nuances, such as cedar and spice box, in recent years. The crème de cassis, floral undercurrent, full-bodied power, extraordinary purity, multi-layered texture and minute-plus finish are a showcase for everything this château accomplished in 1982. The wine is still astonishingly young, dynamic and pure. It's a great wine, still young and seems capable of staying fruity and lively until 2082! Estimated maturity: 2015-2050

Very young

99/100

The 2009 edition of Mouton-Rothschild is as concentrated as the 2010, but in a more seductive style. Richly textured and full-bodied, with gorgeous notes of crème de cassis, melted licorice, espresso and chocolate. It has high, but soft, velvety tannins, a massive body, and fabulous purity. It could prove to be a candidate for perfection in 6-8 years. It will be good to drink in 30-50 years, but will still be much more affordable and charming than its 2010 counterpart.
