We have chosen to use the word investment, not to advise you to buy this or that bottle in order to make a capital gain in a few years' time, but rather to invest in certain estates or appellations that will be more difficult to access financially in a few years' time.

AN APPELLATION LOVED BY ALL
The Mercurey appellation is an AOC that every consumer knows at least by name, and at best by having already tasted a bottle. The wines are quite popular, because for the most part, they are affordable for everyone.
Mercurey wines were validated in 1937 and are now one of Burgundy's most important appellations. It is located in the Saône et Loire department, right in the center of the Côte Chalonnaise, about ten kilometers from Chalon-sur-Saône. The vineyards extend over 650 hectares, 545 hectares of reds and 105 hectares of whites, where Pinot Noir and Chardonnay are the king grape varieties.
These grape varieties thrive on Mercurey's soils. To the east, the soils are limestone marl, while to the west they benefit from a Jurassic structure covered with sandstone. This diversity of soils enables Mercurey wines to cover a wide range of aromas and textures.

A STYLE OF WINE THAT APPEALS TO EVERYONE
Here's the second reason why Mercurey wines appeal to so many people...
For white wines, Chardonnay brings white fruit and floral notes that combine perfectly with barrel aging. As for the soils, they give the wine a certain exuberance and a pronounced aromatic richness.
For reds, Pinot Noir is softer and rounder than on the Côte de Nuits. It gives notes of red berries and forest fruits, and the wines can be enjoyed young.
Some estates benefit from very rich soils, which enable Pinot Noir to produce more mineral wines, more prone to ageing.

A MULTITUDE OF PLOTS
Some 120 growers share the 650 hectares of vines that produce two AOCs.
Mercurey village to which may be added the name of its original climate (there are 78 lieux-dits in Mercurey).
Mercurey Premier Cru, if it comes from one of the 32 climats classified as Premier Cru.
Certain Premiers Crus such as "Clos des Ruelles", "Champs Martin" and "Les Montots" stand out from the crowd thanks to their exposure and terroir.
Of all these properties, we have chosen to describe the following Chamirey estateWith its rich history, it offers authentic wines from the appellation.
Built in the early 18th centuryème century and under the control of the Dupaty de Clam family, it wasn't until the end of the 18ème century that the Marquis de Jouennes d'Herville family became owners. In 1934, it was he who decided to bottle the estate's wines at the Château.
Today, Amaury and Aurore Devillard, the fifth generation to carry on the family tradition, produce some of the finest wines in the appellation.
This premier cru is a monopoly of the Devillard family. Facing due east, the 1.92 hectares are planted exclusively with Chardonnay. The vines are planted on rocky limestone terraces, giving the wine a highly mineral character.
On the nose, notes of lime, yellow fruit and citrus emerge. .
The palate follows the same trend, with lingering woody notes.
Slightly larger than the estate's other monopole, Clos des Ruelles measures 2.5 hectares.
Pinot noir is king here, with vines planted between 1954 and 1980. The soil is "brick red", indicating a high presence of ferric oxides, perfect for bringing power and complexity to the wine. The special feature of this first wine is that the young and old vines are vinified separately, then blended and aged for 15 months in oak barrels, including 25% of new barrels.
When young, the nose is fine, with mainly black fruit aromas.
The palate, too, is discreet and structured, with powerful tannins.
All in all, a great ageing potential!
> Mercurey red Premier Cru "Les Cinq
The approach to this cuvée is rather original. In 2010, Bertrand, Aurore and Amaury De Villard decided to blend the best Burgundy wines from their five Mercurey premier crus rouges.
Aged for several months in barrel, the wine is powerful and dense in its youth. It will take 6-8 years for it to reveal its full aromatic palette.
If you would like to discover other wines from this appellation, we invite you to taste the wines of the following estates FAIVELEY or A.and P. DE VILLAINE (co-owners of the Domaine de la Romanée-Conti), each with their own style.
