We've chosen to use the word investment, not to advise you to buy a particular bottle in order to make a capital gain in a few years' time, but rather to invest in certain appellations or estates that will be harder to afford in a few years' time.
THE POWER AND STRUCTURE OF BURGUNDY
☀ Nuits-Saint-Georges wines have long been known for their power and character.
Located on the Côtes de Nuit, in the Côte d'or department. The vineyards were instituted in 1936 and bring together the communes of Nuits-Saint-Georges and Premeaux-Rissey, the only two communes eligible for the appellation. Although it is possible to produce white Nuits-Saint-Georges, it is the red wines that have the upper hand, with no less than 298.59 hectares of the 308.46 hectares planted in these communes. After a few years of ageing, the wine develops aromas of cooked fruit, earth and truffle, all of which are supported by good tension and character. Red wines go well with game, red meats and a few strong cheeses, while the golden-yellow white wines are ideal with poultry, mushrooms or softer cheeses.
A SPECIAL FEATURE: THERE IS NO GRAND CRU
? The distinctive feature of Nuits-Saint-Georges wines is that there is no Grand Cru in the appellation. However, the soils are rich: the wines to the north of the appellation are made from silt and gravel coming down from the coast, while the wines to the south benefit from the alluvium of the Combe des Vallerots, which affords a marly-limestone soil. This diversity of soils has led to the definition of no fewer than 41 premier crus and 34 lieux dits. Premier Cru production is quite significant, accounting for almost half the vineyard's 144 hectares (138 hectares of reds and 6.60 hectares of whites).
We won't repeat the story, but to keep it short. The wines of Saint-Georges, which gave their name to the Côtes "de nuits", did not want to differentiate and therefore create a hierarchy within their vineyards, so as not to overshadow the other climats and villages. This is why, when the classification of Burgundy wines was created in the 1930s at the birth of the AOC, there was no demand for a Grand Cru in the Nuits-Saint-Georges appellation, even though it is one of the most renowned in Burgundy.

Domaine David Duband
Pierre Duband founded the domaine in 1965, producing grapes from around 15 hectares, which he sold to the Beaune cooperative. In 1991, he decided to expand the estate and bought parcels of Nuits-Saint-Georges and Nuits-Saint-Georges 1.er Cru. Ditto in the following years, with vines in the Hautes-Côtes and this time in Vosne-Romanée. The landmark year for the domaine was 1995, when David took over from his father Pierre and continued to expand the estate.
Nuits Saint Georges 2018
The vines that produce the estate's Nuits Saint Georges are over 50 years old and planted on marly limestone soils.
Like a large proportion of the estate's production, the grapes are vinified at 80% as whole grapes.
The cap is punched down 6 or 7 times, and the wine is pumped over. The wines are then bottled after 14 months of ageing. 40% of the juice goes into new barrels, and the rest is aged in 1, 2 or 3 litre barrels.ème wines.
All this good work gives even more substance to Nuits Saint Georges, which develops aromas of white pepper and black fruit. The well-presented tannins will take a few years to soften.

Daniel Rion Estate
Daniel Rion founded the family business in 1955, starting with 2 hectares of vines in the commune of Vosne-Romanée.
Until 1978, the domaine sold its juice exclusively to Burgundy wine merchants, but with the arrival of his sons in the late 70s, the domaine took a new direction. A new winery was built, along with a larger cellar, enabling the domaine to sell its wines directly on site.
In 1995, Daniel handed over the running of the estate to his sons. And it was a great success, as the family estate now covers 18 hectares in 18 different appellations.
Nuits Saint Georges 1er Cru 2017 Les Hauts Pruliers
The 46 ares of vines are planted on terraces at an altitude of 245 metres on shallow brown limestone soils. The average age of the vines is around forty years, ideal for producing concentrated yet balanced grapes. This terroir, combined with healthy vines, produces a lively, powerful and masculine Nuits Saint Georges. Aromas of red fruit and minerality give it great complexity.
To be enjoyed after a few years of ageing.

Les Quatre vignes - Laurent Père et fils
We've already told you about the DOMINIQUE LAURENT estate, known and recognized for its wines for the wine trade. In 2006, he decided to set up a small business with his son Jean, who, like his father, had a passion for grapes. This time, they produce their own grapes, but the winemaking is still a family affair, as Dominique Laurent loves to vinify his wines with unstemmed grapes and mature them in new oak barrels, without the use of sulfur.
Nuits Saint Georges 2017 Les Quatre Vignes
Powerful and structured, the domaine's wines are no exception to Dominique Laurent's rule. You'll need to wait a few years for the tannins to soften, leaving room in its youth for a spicy, toasty wine with black fruit aromas.
The wines will gain in wisdom after a few years and will give very complex and delicate wines.
