Château Le Pin is a Bordeaux wine from the Pomerol appellation. The exceptionally small estate is located on the Gironde estuary on the right bank of the commune of Pomeroldans the hamlet of Catusseau and its wine is frequently one of the most expensive red wines in the world. Visit Château Trotanoy is a winegrowing estate located in Pomerol. It extends over 14 hectares of vineyards and produces this illustrious cru to the tune of around 48,000 bottles a year. The Château Trotanoy was acquired in 1953 by the Établissements Jean-Pierre MOUEIXsince exploited. Enthusiasts have made this wine the viceroy of Pomerol - it outshines Old Château Certan. N°8 : Old Chateau Certan - Robert Parker Average Score : 93,09/100

Covering 14 hectares in a single block, the Vieux Château Certan vineyard is divided into 23 independently-managed plots, according to soil type, grape variety and vine age. With a wide variety of nuances, the soils are made up of a very clayey part planted mainly with Merlot (70%), a clay-gravel part planted with Cabernet Franc (25%) and a very gravelly part planted with Cabernet Sauvignon (5%). The average age of the vines in relation to the surface area is 50 years. These older vines, combined with the microclimate of the Pomerol plateau, enable optimal ripening of the different grape varieties.

N°9 : Château The Gospel - Robert Parker Average Score : 93,04/100

The Léglise family, originally from Libourne is at the origin of Château L'Évangile. In the mid-18th century, it played an active role in the development of Pomerol's vineyards. L'Évangile appears on the 1741 land register under the name Fazilleau. In 1990, Domaines Barons de Rothschild (Lafite) acquired L'Évangile from the Ducasse family, with a view to ensuring continuity of care and sustainability. The influence of DBR (Lafite) is first reflected in a more refined selection of the grand vin and the creation of Blason de L'Évangile as a second wine. Efforts have also focused on the health of the vines, with a restoration and partial renewal plan launched in 1998. The complete renovation of the vat room and cellars, completed in 2004, has enabled the estate to finalize its new configuration.

Sylviane Garcin-Cathiard took over the Clos De l'Église estate in January 1997. Situated on a hillside at the break of the famous Pomerol plateau. Louis Nicolas' successors - Francis and Bernard - have been clever enough to combine tradition with modern winemaking methods. Château Gazin is the largest of Pomerol's finest crus, with 26.26 hectares of clay-gravel terroir on the plateau. Yield is 80,000 bottles a year. The owner is Nicolas de Bailliencourt, who produces, with passion and regularity, an exceptional wine in a classic style, which ages incredibly well, a gran vin de garde.

N°15 : Château Feytit Clinet - Robert Parker Average Score : 91,16/100

A smaller estate than the others in Pomerol, but in just over a decade, this grand cru has risen to the top of the Pomerol appellation. A superbly situated terroir of gravel on clay, adjacent to Clinet and Latour. Added to this is a great man, Jérémy Chasseuil, who has been managing the estate since 2000, and looks after the vinifications with talent and passion. His wines are distinct and deep, and their respect for fruit is evident in their taste.

N°16 : Château Latour in Pomerol - Robert Parker Average Score : 91,07/100

This cru is managed by the Moueix estate. It is located in the heart of the AOC Pomerol plateau, on characteristic soils of clay and gravel. The vines are planted on two parcels, one near the church of Pomerol, on gravel soils, the other on lighter soils. This château has incredible, exceptional potential. It has already produced extraordinary wines, equaling, deepening and competing with many of Bordeaux's great classified growths.

Within the unitary whole that is Pomerol, a multitude of micro-local particularities can be discovered. The singularity of Château Le Bon Pasteur - with a total surface area of 6.7 hectares - lies on the border between the two great terroirs of Pomerol and Saint-Emilion. Unlike the great châteaux of the Médoc, the vineyards are not all in one piece, but spread over 21 registered plots. This mosaic of identities gives the wine all its complexity: density of color, delicacy of bouquet, the mellowness of Pomerols, but also the generous, full-bodied character borrowed from Saint-Émilion.

This estate is also managed by the Péré-Vergé family. Catherine Péré-Vergé has taken this property to the very top of the Pomerol appellation. In association with the great oenologist Michel Rolland, and with all her attention paid to the vines, this grand cru has been transformed, evolved, to achieve unprecedented quality. Vinification is carried out entirely in barrels, producing generous, modern wines for the greatest enthusiasts and lovers of fleshy Pomerols. Mr Henri Parent, Catherine Péré-Vergé's son, now manages the estate with brio.

 

N°19 : Château La Fleur de Gay - Robert Parker Average Score : 90,03/100

The vineyards of château La Fleur de Gay The entire two-hectare estate lies on the high terrace of Pomerol. The three parcels of Château La Fleur de Gay's vineyard - La Fleur, Gay and Groupey - with their geological or edaphological (agrological, pedological) differences, represent three complementary and synergistic expressions in the blending of this terroir of "exceptional viticultural aptitude" that is the high Gunz terrace, "the oldest and highest terrace in the Libourne region (38 to 40 meters above sea level)".

 

N°20 : Château Certan de May - Robert Parker Average Score : 88,45/100

Of Scottish origin, the de May family settled in France in the Middle Ages, and as a reward for their courage, were offered the Fief de Certan by the King of France. One of Pomerol's very first vineyards, the château was managed by the De May family until 1925, when it was acquired by the Barreau family. Situated on the highest part of the Pomerol plateau and enjoying a south-easterly exposure, Château Certan de May is surrounded by illustrious neighbors such as Vieux Château Certan and Château La Fleur-Pétrus. The wine owes its great complexity to the clay and gravel soils on which the vines are planted, with an average age of 35 years: the clay brings power and the gravel brings elegance. The balance of Château Certan de May wines illustrates the unique complementarity of these terroirs. The vineyard, perfectly managed by the Barreau family and vinified with the help of Michel Rolland until 2012, then Jean-Claude Berrouet since the 2013 vintage, is recognized worldwide.
