Visit Gevrey-Chambertin wines are Burgundy wines, produced on the Côte de Nuits to be precise. The Côte de Nuits, renowned for its powerful wines, is ahead of the Côte de Beaune, which produces more elegant wines. Gevrey-Chambertin wines can only be produced in two communes. Gevrey-Chambertin and Brochon, both located in the Côte-d'Or department.

AN APPELLATION TO DREAM ABOUT

The appellation had its AOC validated in 1936, following the creation of the Comité National des Appellations d'origine des vins. The appellation comprises 26 premiers crus and 9 grands crus climats, spread over 408 hectares.

A WINE WITH CHARACTER

The vines rise between 280 and 380 meters above sea level, where the Premiers Crus and Grands Crus benefit from the best brown limestone soils. Further down, the vines that produce the Village de Gevrey-Chambertin appellation are planted in brown calcareous soils. What these two have in common is that they have the same red grape variety, Pinot Noir, and that they both have the same layer of clayey marl that gives the wine its powerful character, complemented by small scree slopes that give the wine its finesse and elegance.

WORLD-RENOWNED WINES

The "simple" Gevrey-Chambertin appellation is already the stuff of dreams for wine lovers the world over, but some of its grands crus are legendary, such as Chambertin and Clos de Bèzes. The wines are also very popular because they go well with so many different dishes. Whether it's with local dishes such as chops à la Bourguignonne or poultry with character, the wines are a perfect match.

Here are just a few of the areas we recommend you invest in, or discover.

DOMAINE MONGEART-MUGNERET

Vincent Mongeart has been involved in Burgundy winegrowing since 1620, and is the 8th generation to work on the estate. Based in the commune of Vosne-Romanée, the estate boasts 35 appellations, spread over 30 hectares. His aim is to maintain and enhance the family heritage, while respecting the traditions of the terroir.

The domaine owns a tiny plot of Pinot Noir with an average age of 40 years. Planted on stony aluvium on clay-limestone soil, the Pinot Noir expresses itself perfectly. The wine is aged between 30% and 40% in new barrels to bring out the power and tannins needed for long ageing. We recommend opening this bottle from 2025 to allow the Pinot Noir to express itself fully, releasing its aromas of red fruit and musk. A sure value to be discovered without further delay!

DOMINIQUE LAURENT

Known and recognized for his powerful wines, in 2006 Dominique Laurent created a structure for his négociant wines. For although he grows some of the vines he vinifies, he also buys grapes that he raises himself. His trademark is powerful, deep wines that he takes pleasure in making, often without de-stemming (separating the grape balls from the bunch), and often with long barrel ageing, without the use of sulfur.

This cuvée is no exception. A long barrel ageing brings firm tannins to the wine. This structure will remain present for many years, giving the wines an interesting ageing potential. The Pinot Noir offers notes of blackcurrant, forest fruits and fresh berries. A confidential cuvée, you'll need to be patient before tasting it, and attenuate the tannins that are very present in its youth.

DOMAINE DE VOUGERAIE

Jean Charles and Nathalie Boisset are the second generation of the domaine, founded in 1964 by their father. In love with their region, over time they acquired several parcels in different appellations in Côtes de Beaune and Vougeot. Today, the domaine represents 67 parcels in 33 appellations, spread over 34 hectares. Their watchwords are irreproachable soil work and respect for the terroir, to produce living, pure wines.

The Evocelles parcel is the most beautiful parcel in the commune of Brochon and is often compared to the Ruchotte Chambertin parcel in the Grands Crus. It is divided into 4 parcels with different exposures and plantings. The overall surface area is 2.72 hectares, made up of 100% Pinot Noir with a south-south-east exposure, all on limestone soils and alluvial deposits that vary from plot to plot. Different from the previous cuvée, the Evocelles will have more finesse and minerality than the Dominique Laurent cuvées previously presented. Accessible more quickly, you'll need to wait another 4/5 years before opening them to discover their full potential.

We have chosen to use the word investment, not to advise you to buy this or that bottle in order to make a capital gain in a few years' time, but rather to invest in certain estates or appellations that will be more difficult to access financially in a few years' time.
