volnay-investir-dans-le-vin

We have chosen to use the word investment, not to advise you to buy a particular bottle in order to make a capital gain in a few years' time, but rather to invest in certain appellations or estates that will be harder to afford in a few years' time.

THE MOST FEMININE OF RED BURGUNDIES

☀ Even if certain climates contradict the rest of the appellation description, Volnay wines have always been considered delicate and feminine. Located in the Côte-d'Or region, the wines come from the commune of Volnay, with the exception of the Santenot climat, which is located in the village of Meursault. The 222 hectares overlook Beaune and are planted on the Chaignot mountain. At the top, the soils are chalky, complemented by schistose banks; at mid-slope, the soils are more chalky, then at the bottom of the slope, chalky and chalky soils combine to supply the vines with minerals.

Established in 1937, like a large proportion of Burgundy wines, the vineyard does not have a Grand Cru, but 29 climats are classified as Premier Cru and complete the appellation's 24 lieux-dits. Some climats, such as Premier Cru "Santenot", "Frémiet" and "En Chevret", offer highly complex and distinctive wines.

VERY VELVETY WINES

? It's not just a legend: Volnay wines are fine, delicate and more feminine reds.

Chalky soils combined with Pinot Noir give Beaune wines all their suppleness. The softer climates offer supple, fruity wines with red fruit aromas. They go well with poultry, modern dishes and even lacquered food, to remind us of the wine's gourmet flavors. On warmer climates, which offer more powerful wines, game and mature meats will be de rigueur to match the more animal and characterful notes.

For cheese lovers, although it's advisable to pair your cheeses with white wines, Volnay wines can accompany strong cheeses.

  • Domaine Jacques Prieur

It all began in 1868 with the marriage of Claude Duvergey and Marie Taboureau, who went on to found Duvergey-Taboureau, a successful wine and brandy merchant.

In 1879, Claude Duvergey bought the Herbeux property in Meursault, now the heart of the Jacques Prieur estate. The late 1880s saw the purchase of several parcels of vines to expand the family vineyard. Claude Duvergey died in 1920 and bequeathed all his possessions to Jacques Prieur, who in turn left the entire estate to his 6 children in 1974.

Today, the heirs still own part of the estate, but it was the Labruyère family, with their extensive winegrowing experience, who bought part of the house to avoid leaving it in the hands of foreign investors. This joyous estate is now in good hands, perpetuating the precise work of this jewel.

?  Volnay 1er Cru Clos des Santenots

Clos des Santenots is a 1.19-hectare monopole in the heart of Santenots du Milieux. The Pinot Noir grapes grow in brown soil on hard limestone, ideal for good natural drainage.

This Climats offers a powerful juice that can easily absorb the 18 months of ageing that 100% benefits from.

On tasting, the nose is magnificent. Red fruit blends with floral and roasted notes.

On the palate, structured tannins reveal a wine of finesse and opulence.

Allow to age for at least 8/10 years before indulging yourself.

  • Domaine Blain Gagnard

Jean-Marc Blain, a native of the Sancerrois region, has been a rising star in recent years. The name of the estate comes from his marriage to Claudine Gagnard in 1980.

Present in some twenty appellations, the estate is one of the few to own a few vines in the emblematic Criot-Bâtard-Montrachet.

The domaine's wines are fine and delicate, but certain parcels with marl soils produce more powerful wines.

?  Volnay 1er Cru Les Champans

This time we offer you a delicate Volnay. This is not to say that the wine is light, quite the contrary. The ageing added by the estate gives just the right amount of tension to accompany this supple, full-bodied yet delicate juice. When the wine is young, you'll still feel a touch of woodiness, a sign of good ageing potential. When this disappears and the fruit takes over, notes of wild berries and ripe fruit appear.

The wine will be perfect with aromatic dishes, but not too powerful.

? Volnay Sous la Chapelle

Third style of Volnay... Volnay's rich terroir offers this time on the "Sous La Chapelle" climat, the clay-sandy soils giving the wine character. After 10 months in barrel, including 20% in new barrels, the wine will reach its full potential. It should be enjoyed within a few years, to release its full aromatic complexity, where black fruit aromas mingle with notes of leather. A superb wine that will sublimate your local dishes, with mushrooms,... A good hind stew for example.
