Domaine Leflaive
The 4 great vintages of Puligny-Montrachet of Domaine Leflaive are grouped into 4 climats: Clavoillon, Les Combettes, Les Folatières and Les Pucelles. There is also a village and a premier cru classique. Domaine Leflaive has had many successful vintages over the years (1979, 1985, 1986 and 1989), but 1992 is the best young wine this estate has produced. Yields averaged 45 hectoliters per hectare, well below recent vintages. The wines are renowned for their purity and elegance, but the 1992s also display a particular level of richness and intensity. In terms of the marriage of power and finesse, Puligny-Montrachet-Les Pucelles is a classic.

Domaine Ramonet
The Ramonet estate is home to some Puligny-Montrachet on the "Champs-Canet" and "Les Enseignères" Climats. There's also a village cuvée. Tasting the 2014 Champs Canet: More tension than the Ruchottes, with a reserved nose of white flowers, mint and citrus zest, the 2014 Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Champs-Canet is vibrant and mineral, with impressive power and length. This wine is a testament to the quality of their 2014 range.

Domaine D'auvenay
Domaine d'Auvenay is a small Burgundy winery based in Saint-Romain. It is owned and managed by Lalou Bize-Leroy from Domaine Leroywhich had been run by her husband Marcel Bize until his death in 2004. Under the Auvenay label, it produces village, Premier Cru and Grand Cru wines from pinot noir and chardonnay grapes. There are just 4 hectares of vines, compared with 22 hectares at Domaine Leroy, but these holdings include parcels in the Mazis-Chambertin, Bonnes-Mares and Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Cru vineyards, as well as in a small handful of Premier Cru vineyards, including Puligny-Montrachet Les Folatières and Meursault les Gouttes d'Or. In the appellation Puligny-MontrachetThe Puligny-Montrachet En Richarde range includes 4 cuvées: 1er cru La Richarde, 1er cru Les Folatières and Les Enseignères. Puligny-Montrachet En Richarde 2010 captivates the intellectual and hedonistic senses as few wines can. Puligny's powerful side emerges in this spectacular white on a grand scale. Seemingly endless layers of fluidity are built into the extroverted finish. This is a very big wine.

Etienne Sauzet
This is one of Puligny-Montrachet's flagship estates, with around ten cuvées produced in the appellation, including the premier crus. The history of this estate dates back to the early 20th century, when Etienne Sauzet inherited and bought several parcels of vines in the village of Puligny-Montrachet. The vines passed through the family to Jeanine Boillot, Sauzet's granddaughter. She and her husband, Gérard Boudot, managed the estate and carried out numerous modernizations, including improved winemaking techniques and biodynamic farming. Today, the estate has been passed on to their daughter Emilie and her husband, Benoît Riffault, who continue to produce some of the most sought-after white wines in Burgundy. After four generations, and despite Sauzet's death in 1975, "Sauzet" is still composed of six letters that sound like a tribute to Chardonnay.
Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Combettes tasting by William Kelley: "Blind tasted, the 2015 Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Combettes 2015 is exceptional, unfolding in the glass with an elegant bouquet of hazelnut cream, ripe lemon and pear. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied, layered and concentrated, with mellow extract and considerable depth at the core, whitened by lively, tangy acids. This was an excellent performance for Sauzet."

Today, Marc and Michele's children Joseph, Caroline and Damien own and manage the estate. Fourth brother Pierre-Yves (who made wine with Marc Colin for 10 years) launched his own project in 2005.
Visit Puligny-MontrachetThe domaine produces superb premier cru wines. Here are the 3 climats: 1er cru La Garenne, Le Trézin, Les Enseignières,
Sustainable and organic farming, old vines and clay-limestone soils are just some of the elements that contribute to the quality of the final wine. product. The winemaking style would best be called traditional, although Joseph (who makes the whites) and Damien (who makes the reds) certainly don't hesitate to innovate. The whites strive for optimum freshness. There's no heavy, unsightly wood here. The red wines are characterized by a silky texture, ever-present fruit and a certain roundness with just a kiss of oak. Production comprises 70% of white and 30% of red, with a maximum total output of 120,000 bottles.

Domaine de Montille
This beautiful Burgundy estate was created by Hubert de Montille. Today, the domaine is in the hands of his son Etienne. Vinification is traditional - partial de-stemming followed by a relatively long maceration period. There are also some fine white wine estates, notably Puligny Montrachet Les Caillerets. In Puligny-Montrachet, the climats are Les Caillerets, Les Folatières and Les Chalumeaux. The wines are aged in oak barrels (20-30% new) and bottled unfiltered. These are wonderfully elegant, harmonious wines that require at least five years' bottle ageing. The domaine has recently expanded considerably with the purchase of vineyards in Beaune, Corton and (from 2005) the Côte de Nuits, including some wonderful Vosne Romanee Les Malconsorts. Puligny Montrachet 1er cru Les Caillerets 2015 tasting by William Kelley: "This is a very good result from Domaine de Montille's Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Caillerets 2015, a taut, intense wine that offers aromas of roasted nuts, citrus flesh and a framework of smoky reduction. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied, beautifully bright and pure, with considerable concentration, bright balancing acids and a long, lingering finish. In its reductive, incisive style, this is an extremely successful contemporary white Burgundy."

Blain Gagnard
Domaine Blain-Gagnard has a cuvée in Puligny Montrachet Village. The Puligny village comes from a parcel in the locality known as "La rue aux vaches", planted in 1957. It offers a bouquet of green apples, pink and lively, with a touch of flint. The palate is well endowed for a village cru, with plenty of ripe citrus fruit tinged with hazelnut, a fine line of acidity and good presence on the long, satisfying finish. The estate is run by Jean-Marc Blain. He married Claudine Gagnard in 1980 after meeting her at Dijon University, and their son Marc-Anthonin, who learned the ropes abroad, joined the husband-and-wife team. The winery is located in Chassagne, just a few doors down from the Fontaine-Gagnard estate, which came knocking a few days later. Jean-Marc couldn't be more different from his niece, Céline Fontaine. Whereas Céline was boisterous, candid and bursting with energy, Jean-Marc kept his opinions to himself until he asked, letting his wines do the talking. What the two estates have in common is that they are both top Chassagne producers. The domaine has an impressive portfolio of holdings scattered across some of the appellation's most propitious first growths, as well as three grand crus, including a 0.08 hectare plot of Montrachet. Even so, the total vineyard area does not exceed 8.17 hectares. Quantities are therefore small.

Louis Latour
Maison Louis Latour has numerous cuvées in the AOC Puligny-Montrachet premier cru and a village cuvée. These include the Champ Gain, Hameau de Blagny, La Garenne, La Truffière, Le Cailleret, Les Folatières, Les Réferts and Sous le Puits climats. Maison Louis Latour is one of Burgundy's most respected négociants élévateurs. Maison Louis Latour is the producer of some of Burgundy's finest wines, but has also pioneered the production of fine wines from outside the confines of Burgundy. Tasting of Puligny Montrachet Sous Le Puits 2016 by William Kelley: "It unfolds in the glass with a nicely reserved but attractively pure bouquet of ripe lemons, citrus flowers and custard. On the palate, the wine is medium-bodied, full-bodied and satiny, with a powerful attack, a lively but fleshy finish and a pure finish. With a few years in bottle, I think it will evolve into something quite exotic and gourmand.

Jean-Marc Boillot
This is a highly reputed estate in the Puligny-Montrachet appellation. There are ten or so cuvées in the appellation. Here are the different climats: 1er cru Champ Canet, Combettes, Les Truffières, Les Réferts, Clavaillon, La Garenne, Les Caillerets, Sous le Puits. Jean-Marc Boillot was part of the young Burgundian generation determined to improve his family's wines. In 1984, after having vinified 13 vintages at the family estate, Henri Boillot, Jean-Marc left in protest, with the aim of producing highly concentrated, rich and ripe wines. He became Olivier Leflaive's winemaker for four years, and at the same time produced wines from 5 hectares of vines, bottled under his own label. The wines impressed Boillot's grandfather, who bequeathed half his vineyard to Jean-Marc. Boillot runs his domaine from the house and cellars of his grandfather Henri Boillot in the village of Pommard. Jean-Marc's maternal grandfather was the late Etienne Sauzet, from whom he also inherited exceptional vineyards. Tasting of Puligny-Montrachet La Truffière 2002 by Pierre Rovani: "This is a very nuanced wine, massively concentrated and broad-shouldered. Earth, minerals and stones can be detected in its complex aromatics. Its pure, deep character reveals waves of sap-soaked gravel and clove-scented pears that persist in its fat, pure, long finish."

Michel Bouzereau
Domaine Bouzereau Michel & Fils produces some superb Puligny-Montrachet on the Les Caillerets and Les Champs Gains climats. Located just a stone's throw from Dominique Lafon in Meursault, Michel Bouzereau has been developing some very healthy, well-crafted and utterly delicious wines in recent years. Caillerets 2016 tasting by Neal Martin: "The 1er Cru les Caillerets Puligny Montrachet 2016 has a clean, precise bouquet with attractive granite and damp limestone scents filtering through green apple aromas. Not an intense Cailleret on the nose, but well concentrated. The palate is well-balanced with a finely tuned opening: citrus zest, peach skin and a touch of ginger. The acidity gives more tension than some of the estate's other whites, and there's a lovely caressing finish with a waxy texture that lingers in the mouth. Excellent, it might even surpass the 2015."
Champs Gains 2016 tasting: "The Puligny Montrachet 2016 1er Cru les Champs Gains, from a parcel adjacent to the Truffières, presented a rather sensual, waxy bouquet with distant green aromas developing on aeration, followed by later notes of caramel apple and nutmeg. The palate is well-balanced, with a satisfyingly fat mouthfeel. There's certainly more richness here than in Meursault-Blagny, for example, and impressive persistence. The more I get to know this Puligny-Montrachet, the more I like it!
Characteristics of Puligny Montrachet wines
Puligny-Montrachetalong with Chassagne, is the most perfect expression of the Chardonnay grape variety. The appellation was created in 1937 on soils separated by only a few meters from the Grands Crus. The white wines have well-defined personalities and an established reputation. The parcels adjoining the hamlet of Blagny produce an excellent red wine from the Pinot Noir grape. In 1879, Puligny obtained permission to hyphenate the name of its most famous vineyard, Montrachet. Today, Puligny-Montrachet's reputation revolves around its four grands crus, and many consider Montrachet to be the world's greatest white wine. At its best, it has an intensity, complexity and elegance that makes you wonder how such a wine could be made from grapes.
Characteristics of the wines of Puligny Montrachet
Puligny-Montrachet white wines: This wine is brilliant gold in color with greenish highlights, becoming more intense with age. The bouquet brings together hawthorn flowers, ripe grapes, marzipan, hazelnut, amber, lemongrass and green apple. Milky (butter, hot croissant) and mineral (flint) aromas are common, as is honey. Body and bouquet merge in subtle harmony. This wine combines well-defined character with remarkable concentration. Concentrated and racy. Their balance, aromatic complexity and clean style call for delicate yet rich foods. They're equally at home with poultry in sauce or fried veal with mushrooms. Their great distinction elicits gratitude from foie gras, lobster, crayfish and grilled or fried sea fish. On the cheese platter, its natural allies are goat's cheeses, Reblochon or soft cheeses like Brie de Meaux.
Red wines from Puligny-Montrachet: the red wine is bright ruby when young, darkening with age. Its bouquet is divided between red berries (redcurrant to raspberry) and black fruits (blackcurrant), later transforming into leather, musk and fur.
Tender and well-fruited, it is well established and will age well for several years. Their opulent, fleshy structure will bring richness and fullness to veal, pork and roast chicken, as well as hard cheeses like Comté.
