Choosing a bottle of 1959 wine
1959 is one of the exceptional years for wines in France. All the vineyards experienced optimal climatic conditions allowing them to produce exceptional red (Bordeaux, Burgundy) and white (Loire, Burgundy, Sauternes) wines, some of which can still be kept and offer superb tastings.
Comptoir des Millésimes has carefully selected some of the very fine successes of the 1959 vintage by region.
- Bordeaux wines from 1959 : 18/20
1959 was an exceptional year in Bordeaux, especially for red wines. It is a vintage that shows the ageing potential of a great Bordeaux. Some bottles of 1959 have become mythical and reach crazy prices. The great Pauillac from 1959 are mythical like La Mission Haut Brion 1959 and Mouton Rothschield 1959 which obtained the score of 100/100 by Robert Parker. In Saint Emilion and Pomerol there are also very nice successes such as Trotanoy or Latour in Pomerol 1959. The Sauternes Crus from 1959 are also very interesting wines to taste, notably the
- Burgundy wines from 1959 : 18/20
1959: an exceptional year in Burgundy for both reds and whites. A record harvest, legendary wines from 1959, which are very rare today. Some bottles from 1959 have become untraceable like a Romanée Grand Cru of Maison Leroy or a Richebourg Grand Cru of Domaine Gros-Renaudot.
- Wines from Rhône from 1959: 16/20
It's time for these great wines to be drunk. The vintage was good on the whole. Don't deprive yourself of a good tasting of a bottle of Chateauneuf-du-Pape or Côte Rôtie from 1959.
