About Domaine Santa Duc

What is Domaine Santa Duc?

Founded in 1874 in Gigondas, Domaine Santa Duc is one of the most prestigious wine estates of the Southern Rhône Valley. Family-owned for several generations, the estate now cultivates vineyards across some of the region’s most renowned appellations, including Gigondas, Châteauneuf-du-Pape, Vacqueyras, Vaucluse, and several Côtes du Rhône Villages.

The vineyard is mainly planted with the four signature grape varieties of the estate: Grenache, Mourvèdre, Syrah, and Cinsault. This diversity allows the estate to fully express the richness and complexity of Rhône terroirs, producing wines of great depth, power, and elegance.

The name Santa Duc refers to the Eurasian eagle-owl, a symbol of wisdom and protection. Today, the estate is farmed according to strict organic viticulture principles, promoting biodiversity, soil health, and the purest possible expression of terroir. Each parcel is carefully managed to ensure optimal ripeness and outstanding grape quality.

The Best Cuvées from Domaine Santa Duc

Most of the estate’s vineyards are located in Gigondas, the flagship appellation of Santa Duc. The most renowned wine is Les Hautes Garrigues, crafted from very old Grenache and Mourvèdre vines planted on high-altitude terroirs. Aged for around 18 months in oak barrels, this cuvée is produced only in exceptional vintages and represents the pinnacle of Gigondas.

The Gigondas range also includes the Cuvée Tradition, a benchmark wine of the estate, along with Les Hautes Garrigues, produced exclusively in the finest years. These wines stand out for their intensity, balance, and remarkable aging potential, setting a reference for the appellation.

In Châteauneuf-du-Pape, the estate produces three outstanding cuvées: La Crau Ouest, sourced from 80-year-old Grenache vines, as well as Habemus Papam and Les Saintes Vierges, refined blends of Grenache, Mourvèdre, and Counoise. All grapes are hand-harvested, and the wines are aged for approximately 18 months, revealing the full nobility of this prestigious terroir.

The Côtes du Rhône Villages vineyards are located in Roaix, Sablet, and Séguret. They produce a wide range of red, white, and rosé wines, including Les Quatre Terres Côtes du Rhône and Les Plans IGP Vaucluse, offering an accessible, expressive, and authentic interpretation of the Santa Duc style.
