Château Ducru Beaucaillou 2015

An exceptional vintage. 97/100 Robert Parker, by Lisa Perrotti-Brown :

" Composed of 95% Cabernet Sauvignon and 5% Merlot. Medium to deep garnet-purple colored, the 2015 Ducru-Beaucaillou is provocatively and profoundly scented of chocolate-covered cherries, fresh black currants, crushed blueberries and licorice with touches of cigar box, roses and violets plus hints of black pepper and tapenade. Medium to full-bodied, rich and sultry with tons of seductive layers and firm, wonderfully velvety tannins, it has a very long, multilayered finish."

More about Ducru-Beaucaillou

Ducru-Beaucaillou owes its name to the large, beautiful gravel of Günz that are six to eight meters thick. Pebbles that have their role in the production of such a high quality wine since they release, in the evening, the heat accumulated during the day.

Property of the Borie family, the vineyard established on a deep gravelly soil, offers a wine made of 2 grape varieties:

  • Cabernet Sauvignon 70%
  • Merlot 30%

An uncompromising wine, requiring a decade to deign to open up, although a certain softening appears with recent vintages. The regularity and consistency of quality make it a virtual premier cru. This is what the market has already estimated by adjusting prices.

The estate enjoys a breathtaking view of the Gironde estuary and practises sustainable agriculture in order to respect its vines. After manual harvesting, the vineyard practices a plot by plot vinification in order to obtain the most precise wine possible.

Bruno Borie produces four additional wines with the help of the same team that produces the wines of the Château Ducru Beaucaillou:

  • La Croix de Beaucaillou, which made its debut in 1995, comes mainly from vines located further down, near the Château Talbot.
  • Lalande-Borie, made from fruit grown in plots purchased from their neighbor Château Lagrange in 1970.
  • Château Fourcas Borie, which comes from Listrac in the Haut Médoc.
  • Château Hortevie, bought by Bruno Borie in 2006, is no longer in production.
  • The production of these different wines contributes to the leap forward in the quality of the Château Ducru Beaucaillou since only the best grapes are used to produce this wine whose reputation is well established!
