The good advice on the 2006 vintage

Alsace: difficult conditions for winegrowers. The harvest ends early on this vintage. We still find very good wines, only rigorous vineyard management and meticulous winemaking skills were required to produce high quality wines. Many winegrowers are very optimistic. Appropriate selections in the vineyard and the attention paid to the high acidity of the grapes and their variable physiological maturity allowed a successful fermentation.

Bordeaux: the year will result in excellent wines as well as very poor ones. Only producers who have worked well in their vineyards and who have rigorously selected their best grapes have made very good to excellent wines. The Sauternes have done very well.

Burgundy: a very interesting vintage that emphasizes the finesse and precision of the aromas. A cold spring, the flowering progressed rapidly with the onset of warm weather. The month of July was extremely hot, the grapes ripened earlier than expected, with no pressure from disease, but an exceptionally cold and wet August caused mildew and rot, mainly of pinot noir. The Chardonnay did very well. The vintage is richer than 2004. It's difficult to say, but very mineral, very Chablis.
