What is a Cornas wine?

Cornas is a red wine "d'origine contrôlée". It is produced only in the commune of Cornas, on the right bank of the Rhône. The Cornas appellation represents 140 hectares of vines and a production of 5000 hectolitres of wine. The Syrah grape variety is the only authorized grape variety. The wine is dark, almost black and expresses all its power thanks to the Cornas terroir. The young wines of Cornas reveal aromas of spices, black fruits and liquorice. As it ages, it develops truffle and peppery notes. On the terroir side, the south-facing slopes form an amphitheatre that protects the vines and allows the grapes to ripen perfectly.
