Domaine Zind-Humbrecht, owned by Olivier Humbrecht, is a wine estate located in Alsace, in Turckeim. Zind-Humbrecht has mythical terroirs, very well known in France.

Olivier Humbrecht is one of the most renowned winemakers in the world. He is a master of wine and has been described by Robert Parker as the greatest winemaker of white wine on earth. Yet he is very gentle, humble and full of self-mockery, which makes him perfectly suited to his supposed role as a global wine ambassador. He is a champion of the terroir, of the principles of biodynamic agriculture and of non-interventionist winemaking, whose family has lived in Alsace for 12 generations (since 1620). He is extremely proud that although his family estate is "only 40 hectares", there are at least 28 people (and two horses!) working on it at any given time: eight times more than normal at twenty-five times the cost. Tractors are never used in vineyards; the harvest is 100% manual. Yields are low. Herbicides and pesticides are never used. There are no pumps in the cellar, the wine is never filtered and no cultured yeast is used. The wine is aged only in old oak barrels ("we NEVER use new oak"), the wines being kept on their lees for at least nine months to produce a "nicely reducing" character.

Domaine Zind-Humbrecht wines are concentrated, complex, vibrant and balanced. Olivier would say that concentration and complexity are a natural product of the work of cultivating the land in a way that respects the terroir; that the wines are lively because they come from healthy vineyards where the soil is alive and that the wines are balanced because biodynamic agriculture ensures that the vines grow in harmony with nature. And he wouldn't be too shy to say that the wines will be better, given the hard work and dedication devoted to them.
