About the wine & terroir
Acquired in the mid-1980s, the Clos Windsbuhl vineyard in Hunawihr features areas close to the Vosges forest that benefit from slightly shorter evening sun exposure. To make the most of this cool terroir with its Muschelkalk limestone soil—a shelly limestone comparable to that of Burgundy—the choice naturally fell on early-ripening varieties like Chardonnay and Auxerrois. This was a fortunate historical choice that transcends appellation constraints to reveal the true character of the site. Vinified in large, traditional oak casks, Zind undergoes extended aging on total lees until bottling, lending it depth and complexity.
Tasting notes (January 2024)
Appearance: Pale yellow. Nose: Initially discreet and reserved—a classic hallmark of the Windsbuhl in its youth—it reveals subtle notes of citrus and fresh herbs. Aging on the lees adds delicate touches of toast, hazelnut, and gunflint.
Palate: Lively, elegant, and harmonious, driven by perfectly ripe acidity. The mineral backbone characteristic of the vineyard's limestone soil provides a highly distinguished structure. Still in its youth, this dry wine requires some time to fully express its potential, yet it already shows great breeding and immense promise.

Index: Level of sweetness on the palate. Scale from 1 to 5.
1: technically dry or tasting dry. 2: not technically dry, but the sugars are not obviously apparent on the palate. Some tasters may find a slight roundness on the finish. These wines will taste dry with some bottle ageing. 3 : medium sweetness, more important in the youth of the wine, which will gradually fade with age. 4 : Sweet wine. 5 : Sweet wine, very close to a Vendange Tardive
Caution : The bottles of Alsace wine do not fit in the wooden boxes sold separately.
