Domaine Vacheron is one of Sancerre's elite properties, producing white and red Sancerre wines of incredible purity and definition. The estate has been entirely transformed into biodynamic agriculture (certified by Biodyvin in 2005) with two young cousins, Jean-Laurent and Jean-Dominique Vacheron, at the helm. No synthetic materials are used in the vineyard, the harvest is exclusively manual and the only fertilizer used comes from the compost pile. Yields are kept extremely low. Having inherited some of the most coveted parcels of the appellation (and being smart about current land purchases), the cousins are attempting a Burgundian approach to Sancerre winemaking, with plots vinified by terroir and blends varying from year to year.
Certified organic and biodynamic for the last ten years, the Domaine Vacheron is surely one of the strong points of the Sancerre region. Jean-Dominique and Jean-Laurent currently cultivate 34 hectares of Sauvignon Blanc and 11 hectares of Pinot Noir. Starting with a few rows in the famous vineyard of Les Romains, the property has slowly started to acquire small quantities of vines in the most coveted lieux-dits of the appellation, including Guigne Chèvre, En Grands Champs, Paradis and Chambrates.
