The Domaine de Chevalier is a wine estate of 80 hectares of vines. Dating from 1970, this vineyard located on the highest point of the commune of Léognan is one of the greatest Bordeaux wines. The red is well-built, elegant and powerful, yet without being a monster of concentration, and possesses a fruity soul and woody notes. The white is fine, delicate and ample, a rarity that can justify its price. The secret of the Domaine de Chevalier lies in the intransigence of the selections at harvest time. The wine of Domaine de Chevalier, in white even more than in red, is undeniably fashionable. A miracle for this small property lost in the core of the forest, whose vineyard is more than any other exposed to devastating frosts. Olivier Bernard, by Claude Ricard's side since 1983, is working on the quality of a vineyard that is currently giving the best of itself for white wines. The property has done rather well in vintages renowned to be weak elsewhere. We can mention the memorable 1983 and 1985 white wines, which probably can go on to live generously for another fifteen years.
