All about the 1991 vintage wines

The 1991 vintage will not be remembered because of its spring frosts which destroyed part of the right bank of the vineyard. Pomerol and Saint-Emilion are rather to be forgotten, but the wines of the left bank on the appellations of Saint-Estèphe, Pauillac or Pessac-Léognan deserve to be taken into account. Just as difficult as Bordeaux, Burgundy offers very few mature wines. Devastating frosts will force winemakers to make do with lower quality counter-buds. White wines are really to be forgotten. As for the reds, the Pinot Noir of the Côte de Nuit are interesting, as well as some winemakers further south in Pommard or Volnay. After 2020, some of these wines are still drinkable, but they should be prepared properly and drunk in large glasses immediately after opening. As far as the Rhône Valley is concerned, the wines from the northern region should be retained. Wines from the Hermitage, Condrieu or Côte-Rôtie appellations are of great quality, but those from Cornas are still above them and offer interesting bottles to be tasted nowadays.
