Bordeaux wines in 1998:

Although September is rainy in Bordeaux in 1998, there are elegant, opulent and rich wines. Pomerol and Saint-Emilion benefited from exceptional weather for the harvest with good maturity of the grapes. Although Pomerol is slightly ahead of Saint-Emilion, we note a magnificent Cheval Blanc 1998. The Right Bank is to be favoured in 1998 but we note some beautiful exceptions such as Château Lafite Rothschild and Château Mouton Rothschild that are splendid. In 1998, remarkable success for the Pessac-Léognan wines.

Burgundy wines in 1998:

Burgundy enjoyed a hot, dry and particularly sunny summer. It was a rather irregular vintage but it produced exceptional wines in some estates. The Côte de Beaune wines will be more consistent; the greatest wines are likely to come from the Côte de Nuits. Among the great wines of 1998 are Nuits-Saint-Georges, Chambolle-Musigny, Morey St Denis, Fixin, Vosne-Romanée and Gevrey-Chambertin which are dazzling. For white wines, Chassagne-Montrachet could be the most successful of the Côte d'Or appellations. Hail has reduced yields in Chablis, but the wines of the best sites are rich and powerful.

Rhône wines in 1998

A remarkable vintage in the Rhône North & South! An excellent vintage. A very hot and long summer gave birth to wines that can be kept for a long time. The best appellations of the 1998 vintage are mainly in the southern Rhône. There can be found the elite, such as Châteauneuf-du-Pape and Gigondas.
