Fourth great classified growth -  Saint Julien Wine

Chateau Beychevelle , owned by the Castel and Suntory groups, is a 250 hectare wine estate comprising 90 hectares of vines. This wine is recognised as being graceful, complex and richly aromatic. The price of Chateau Beychevelle has risen in recent years due to the success of this Bordeaux wine in Asia.

Do you know Château Beychevelle?

No blame can be laid at the door of the 1855 jury, which ranked the wine in the bottom tier of fourth growths. We can assure you that it was not worth much more at the time. Then came the Achille-Fould generations, full of ambition. The wine then made a steady ascent before entering a period of instability of twenty years, from the 1962 vintage to that of 1981. Frankly mediocre in the lesser years, passable in some of the greater years, the wine sought an image, believing that it would be found in bottles to be opened young. If the wines of Chateau Beychevelle have a particularity, they are nonetheless endowed with a reserve of power which ensures them a certain longevity. The mistakes of the past have come to an end with the sumptuous 1982, 1986, 1988 and 1989. The resources that the Garantie Mutuelle des Fonctionnaires, which bought the estate from the Achille-Fould family in 1987, has been able to invest in it, have largely contributed to the rise in the classification of this wine. Today, it is a very great wine!

The vineyard, situated on deep Garonne gravel soils, offers a wine made from 4 different grape varieties:

After the traditional vinification, the wine of Château Beychevelle is aged for 18 months in half new oak barrels. Roundness, aromatic richness and power are recurrent in the tasting comments.

In order to best express its terroir, the estate also produces a second wine, "Amiral de Beychevelle".
