"I've never seen grapes so perfect," said Alfred Tesseron, owner of Château Pontet-Canet. A vintage blessed by the Gods. The wines are full of ripe fruit and tannins, and are of high acidity, a very rare combination for Bordeaux. The vintage could be a combination of 2000, 1990 and 1989, with just a little of 1982.

An excellent season, optimal weather conditions. After initial tastings of newly fermented Rieslings, Gewürztraminers and Pinot Gris, Etienne Hugel of Domaine Hugel & Fils stated that the wines are "... of great aromatic purity and of a class comparable to the best vintages".

Sorting was almost useless as the vintage was ideal. The grapes reached their maturity with an alcohol potential of 12 to 13.5 degrees. Bernard Hervet, General Manager of Bouchard Père & Fils in Beaune and William Fèvre in Chablis, said: "The quality of the grapes we harvested was probably the best we have seen since 1989: small golden berries in perfect health, excellent ripeness, magnificent skins and perfectly ripe pips."
