Gewurztraminer Turckheim 2024 - Zind-Humbrecht
Wine from the estate
This Gewurztraminer Turckheim 2024 shows 12.4% acquired alcohol, just 0.3 g/L of residual sugar, total acidity of 2.5 g/L H₂SO₄ (3.8 g/L tartaric), and a pH of 3.7. Yield reaches 49 hl/ha. Optimal drinking is between 2025 and 2033. The vines average 55 years of age and are planted with Gewurztraminer on the Herrenweg de Turckheim terroir. The sweetness index is 1, and the soils are gravelly and silty alluvial deposits.
Historically dominant on this alluvial plain near Turckheim, Gewurztraminer required significant warmth from flowering to harvest, often struggling to ripen properly in many parts of Alsace. Today, with warmer vintages, it can be planted almost anywhere. While technical ripeness (sugar) is easier to achieve, physiological ripeness may arrive too late in some areas, leading to excessively high alcohol levels when vinified dry. On this site, however, climate change now allows the production of a much drier style without pushing the alcohol too high. The precocity of the vineyard enhances physiological ripeness thanks to increased sunshine hours, enabling earlier harvesting and maintaining moderate alcohol even in a bone-dry wine like this one. When Gewurztraminer is not fully ripe, it develops unwanted floral varietal notes—completely absent in this 2024.
Tasting notes (08/2025): bright yellow colour. The nose is expressive and open, showing spicy notes (pepper) and dried fruits, with none of the overt floral varietal aromas. The palate offers a velvety texture and good tension; being very dry, it avoids unnecessary weight or roundness. The finish reveals complex flavours, just as the nose suggested. This is a versatile wine that pairs easily with a wide range of dishes, from fish to white meats.
Index: Level of sweetness on the palate. Scale from 1 to 5.
1: technically dry or tasting dry. 2: not technically dry, but the sugars are not obviously apparent on the palate. Some tasters may find a slight roundness on the finish. These wines will taste dry with some bottle age.3: medium sweetness, more prominent in the youth of the wine, which will gradually fade with age. 4 : Sweet wine. 5 : Sweet wine, very close to a Vendange Tardive
Attention: The bottles of Alsace wine do not fit into the wooden boxes sold separately.
