Pinot Gris Turckheim 2024 - Zind-Humbrecht
Wine from the Zind-Humbecht estate
Sweetness index on the palate: 1 (technically dry or dry tasting wine)
The Pinot Gris Turckheim 2024 shows 12.7% acquired alcohol, with only 0.6 g/L residual sugar. Total acidity reaches 3.0 g/L H₂SO₄ (4.5 g/L tartaric), with a pH of 3.70. Yield is 60 hl/ha. The optimal drinking window runs from 2025 to 2033. The vines average 33 years of age and are planted to Pinot Gris on the Herrenweg de Turckheim terroir. The sweetness index is 1. The soil consists of Quaternary gravel from the alluvial fan of the Fecht River.
These vineyards lie on the alluvial plain near the village of Turckheim. They are always the first to be harvested on the estate, as Pinot Gris is an early-ripening variety and this area benefits from early maturity and minimal shading from the Vosges mountains. As the first grapes picked each year, they bring some anxiety—we always hope we didn’t wait too long. In 2024, nature was generous: Pinot Gris can sometimes yield very little, especially low-fertility massal selections. The grapes were healthy, and fermentation was fast and vigorous, resulting in a very dry wine.
Tasted in August 2025: yellow colour. The nose immediately reveals the classic smoky, toasty notes typical of this variety in Alsace. With time, it will gain further expression and develop aromas of honey and beeswax. The palate shows good flavour intensity, structure, and concentration. A truly dry wine, without harshness, ending on a velvety finish. Saline acidity enhances the noble bitterness. As with all Turckheim wines, the finish is elegant and already very enjoyable.
