Riesling Grand Cru Hengst 2022 - Zind-Humbrecht
Domaine Zind Humbrecht - Wine from the estate
Caution: The bottles of Alsace wine do not fit into the wooden boxes sold separately.
96/100 Suckling
Deep, dark and rocky, this is a powerful dry riesling with a radical structure that is not for the faint-hearted. There’s also a wonderful succulence on the very concentrated mid-palate. And then the hammer falls at the very dramatic finish. From biodynamically grown grapes. Drink or hold.

About the Cuvée
Located on the southeastern slope of the Rotenberg hill in Wintzenheim, the Hengst terroir is historically renowned for its limestone soils and wines of distinctive character. Although the microclimate is warm and promotes early ripening, the marly nature of the soil requires prolonged sunshine to reach full maturity, while the iron-rich bedrock enhances tannin expression.
In response to changing climatic conditions, the estate made the wise decision to replant Riesling (alongside Pinot Noir) on the coolest, east-facing plot of the Hengst, replacing old Gewurztraminer vines. Despite a small harvest in 2022—impacted by a hailstorm in June—a slow and perfect ripening process resulted in a magnificent, dry, and distinguished Riesling.
