About the wine
Located in Turckheim, facing the Grand Cru Brand, the Heimbourg vineyard thrives on a steep slope with a southwest-to-west exposure. Bathed in late-afternoon sunlight, the vines grow on an Oligocene substrate of marl, limestone, and sandstone, characterized by red, ferruginous limestone pebbles. Although the soil is shallow with outcropping bedrock, the fractured nature of the rock allows the roots to penetrate deeply.
While Heimbourg is a deeply calcareous terroir, it imbues its wines with a unique delicacy and aromatic spontaneity, shaped by that distinctive late-afternoon light. In 2023, slight *coulure* (poor fruit set) reduced yields, but the berries—in impeccable condition—allowed for the crafting of a wine of great purity following a long fermentation that finished completely dry.
Tasting notes (January 2025)
Appearance: Pale yellow.
Nose: Initially understated, it opens up to reveal notes of wet stone and intense minerality with hints of complex reductive character. It quickly releases a range of citrus aromas, underscored by touches of aniseed, liquorice, and menthol.
Palate: Precise, taut, and lively. The attack is wonderfully straight and driven by acidity, before opening into a juicy, saline, and immensely enjoyable finish. A distinguished wine, built for excellent aging potential.
