Pomerol
100/100 Wine Spectator
Ageing capacity : 2025 - 2080
Tasting note : "A sleeping giant. Dark ruby in color, it has aromas of blackberry, porcini and green olive, with a hint of mineral. Full-bodied, with ultra-fine tannins and a super-caressing mouthfeel. Turns to coffee, dark chocolate and berries. Chewy but balanced. Very, very long in the mouth. The finish is absolutely stunning." - JS
Petrus is one of the most prestigious and sought-after wines in the world, produced in the Pomerol region. See our available stocks on the website.
Grape variety :
Petrus is predominantly Merlot, making up over 95% of its blend. The remainder may be Cabernet Franc, although the percentage varies from year to year.
Food and wine pairing:
Because of its complexity and depth, Petrus pairs well with a variety of dishes, including:
- Roast or grilled red meats, such as fillet of beef, entrecote steak or rack of lamb.
- Game birds, such as duck or partridge.
- Truffle-based dishes, such as truffle risottos or truffle pasta.
- Soft, strong-flavoured cheeses such as Brie or Camembert.
Serving temperature :
Between 16 and 18°C. This allows the wine to express itself fully and reveal its complex aromas. It is important not to serve it too cold, as this can mask its subtleties.
This is a wine that can be keeping in a wine cellar, which means it can age for many years, developing greater complexity and depth over time.
