Maranges 1er Cru Clos des Loyères 2018 - Nicolas Perrault
92+/100 Parker
Cellaring: 2022 - 2038
Per William Kelley in 2020: "A serious wine built for some bottle age is Perrault's 2018 Maranges 1er Cru Le Clos des Loyères, a cuvée he vinified entirely from whole clusters this year. Showing a deep bouquet of black currants, wild plums, warm spices and rich soil tones, it is medium-bodied, velvety and enveloping, its ample core of fruit supported by a muscular chassis of rich, powdery tannins. Perrault identifies this site as the most stereotypical of the Maranges among his three premier crus, but while it is structured, no one would call it rustic.
Nicolas Perrault has outdone himself with the 2018 vintage, and these new releases have proven to be brilliant. He has been experimenting with whole cluster winemaking since 2005, and since the 2018 vintage, he has consistently used at least 30% whole clusters. He has also found that his wines respond well to long aging, in judiciously chosen barrels of Trémeaux, Chassin and Rousseau.
