Tasted in 2020 by Lisa Perrotti-Brown ‘The deep garnet-purple-coloured 2017 Ausone is a blend of 55% Cabernet Franc and 45% Merlot. It soars out of the glass with gregarious scents of cooked red and black plums, wild blueberries and boysenberries, as well as hints of violets, espresso, liquorice and melted chocolate, with hints of iron ore and ploughed earth. Quite full-bodied, the palate is an exercise in balance, with beautifully ripe silky tannins and bold freshness to support the multiple layers of aromas, with a very long, very mineral finish.’
