Like the 2007, but in a different style, the 2005 Chateauneuf du Pape Combe des Fous is a blockbuster at the top of my scale. Exotic, perfumed and layered, with incredible aromas and flavors of kirsch, ground herbs, pepper and olive tapenade, this beauty is full-bodied and impeccable on the palate, with ultra-fine tannic structure, increasing richness and a finish that simply doesn't quit. Given its depth of fruit, it's a pure joy to drink now, and will continue to work wonders over the next decade or more.
