Nicasia Vineyard Malbec 2016 - Catena Zapata
96/100 & 95/100 Parker
Drink from 2019 to 2024
By Luis Gutiérrez in 2019: "The Malbec Catena Zapata Nicasia 2016 vineyard comes from a vineyard in the Paraje Altamira, which had the advantage of well drained soils and a cooler year, reducing the quantity of grapes by about 30%. A stricter sorting also seems to have borne fruit, which has allowed the grapes to regain a fresher expression of the place. The wine combines maturity with elegance, and is powerful and varied, with a textured mouth showing the chalky mother rock that gives a chalk sensation. It's really good."
DESCRIPTION OF THE WINE
The Malbec "Nicasia" has a deep red colour with purple shades. The nose offers flavours of ripe plums and red berries characteristic of the Nicasia vineyard. Ageing in oak adds complex and elegant notes of liquor, tobacco and vanilla. On the palate, a soft and seductive entry leads to a complex and full-bodied wine with soft, round tannins. The finish is long and persistent. This wine is ideal with game, such as deer and wild boar.
