Clos Vougeot Grand Cru 2018 Le Petit Mauperthuis - Daniel Rion
Domaine Daniel Rion & Fils
94/100 Wine Spectator
Cellaring potential: Best from 2024 to 2040.
Tasting note: "Black cherry and blackberry take center stage here, with a velvety texture and refined tannins. Earth and spicy oak add detail, while crisp acidity provides nice balance. It ends with a cascade of fruit on the finish, matched by powdery tannins. " BS
The vineyard:
Gently sloping, located in the upper part of Clos Vougeot, this 55 ares parcel combines the qualities of an exceptional terroir with those of a beautifully aged grape variety, 40 years old. The soil is both pebbly and silty-clayey and is made up of limestone colluvium. Of average depth, it rests on a marly subsoil.
Tasting of the Clos Vougeot Grand Cru :
A deep red, this wine is harmonious, racy and elegant. It is 70% matured in new barrels and develops its exceptional aromatic intensity, with aromas of red and black fruits, such as cherry, blackberry and blackcurrant. Often austere in its youth, you will find with age evolved aromas of wet earth and musk, and powerful and fleshy tannins.
Food and wine pairing :
This jewel of the Côte de Nuits will happily accompany a breast of duck, a roast pheasant or a stuffed capon, or a roe deer in pepper sauce, a suckling pig.
