Clos l'Église 1997
Pomerol
90/100 Parker
- Tasted by Robert Parker in 2000: "One of the few stars of this sweet, friendly vintage, Clos l'Eglise has fashioned a sexy, dark ruby/purple-colored wine with ostentatious aromas of mocha, caramel, coffee, and sweet berries intermixed with toasty new oak. A, opulently textured, with low acidity, abundant glycerin, and lovely fruit, this is a triumph for the vintage. Drink this beautiful Pomerol over the next 12-15 years."
- Cellaring potential: Can be drunk now. A mature wine.
MORE INFORMATION :
- Clos l'Eglise's 5.9 hectare vineyard is planted to 70% Merlot and 30% Cabernet Franc. There has been an increase in plantings of Cabernet Franc. Divided into 8 main parcels, the majority of their vineyard is located to the southwest of their chateau. The terroir of Clos L'Eglise is filled with rich clay and gravel soil with iron deposits.
- Located on a sloping hillside, with famous neighbors like Chateau Clinet, Chateau L'Eglise Clinet, and Chateau Trotanoy, on average, the vines are maintained at 35 years old. Although there is one old plot of Cabernet Franc that was planted in the 1940s. The vineyard maintains a density of 7,150 vines per hectare, which is quite dense for Pomerol. All of the vineyard's crops are grown using only organic methods.
