Lirac Baron Louis 2015 in Magnum - Domaine de Montfaucon
From the estate
93/100 Parker
Cellaring: 2019 - 2025
Tasted by Joe Czerwinski in 2018: "The rich, tannic 2015 Lirac Baron Louis spent a year in barrel, a year in tank and a year in bottle before release. It offers scents of leather, cedar and vanilla, but balances the oak with dark cola fruit, plum and spice notes. It is full-bodied and velvety on the palate, while notes of licorice appear on the long finish. This wine has clearly established itself as one of the best Liracs.
This historic property is located next to the Rhone River on its western bank and offers a view of the valley, with the Dentelles de Montmirail and Mont Ventoux in the distance. The current owner, Rodolphe du Pins, has been making wine at this property since 1995. He is a fan of the Lirac appellation and the Clairette grape, the estate's superior white wine from 140-year-old Clairette vines. "The '16 was just extraordinary," he says. "For both the whites and the reds."
