Sancerre Rouge 2010 Les Marnes - Domaine Vacheron
By David Schildknecht in 2012: "From a rocky limestone site halfway between Sancerre and Bue - and tasted in barrel - the 2010 Sancerre red Les Marnes intriguingly and seductively blends red currant and blood orange both on the nose and on a bright, luscious palate threaded with a ridge of slightly rough but non-obstructive tannin. Underlying suggestions of rich beef broth and marrow, along with a striking saline flavour that clings to this pinot's seductive fruit essence, make for a finish that had me salivating almost non-stop. At the time of my April visit, the Vacherons had not yet decided on a bottling date for this wine, and given that fact - as well as the inevitable concern about 2010 tannins and awareness of pinot's fickleness - I went out on a limb in assessing what I hope will be an outstanding wine for at least several years."
