Aging potential : 2020 - 2050
Tasted by Lisa Perrotti-Brown on March 5, 2020: "Medium to deep garnet in color, the nose emerges slowly, with notions of candied Morello cherries, baked black currants and blackberry compote, giving way to hints of pencil shavings, unsmoked cigars, Chinese five-spice and sandalwood, as well as subtle cardamom and eucalyptus notes. Medium-bodied, the palate offers mouth-coating black and red fruit jams, with a firm, grainy-textured structure and fantastic freshness, and finishes with a veritable firework of lingering spice and minerals. This is a more restrained, relatively elegant Latour vintage that may not have the "iron fist in a velvet glove" power of the greatest vintages, but nonetheless shows off its superior terroir and behind-the-scenes skills with impressive panache. It's drinking well now, with well-rounded and approachable tannins, and the tertiary characters are just beginning to bring more cerebral elements into the compotier of very tempting primary black fruits. But if you want to drink it in all its glory, give it another 5-10 years in the bottle and drink it over the next 20-25 years."
TERROIR
The majority of Château Latour's vineyard is located on gravelly hilltops that overlook the Gironde estuary from 12 to 16 meters. The fortunate combination of "Gironde, layers of gravel on the surface and clay in depth" gives the terroir of Château Latour a singularity that few sites can boast.
The 2012 vintage is composed of 90.2% Cabernet Sauvignon, 9.6% Merlot and 0.2% Petit Verdot.
SERVICE
Château Latour is served at a temperature of 15°C, in a red wine glass of the "Bordeaux" type. The ideal quantity is 15 cl. To control the temperature of the wine you can use a wine thermometer. Simply plunge it into a glass filled to 1/3 of the wine to be served.
FOOD AND WINE PAIRING
Château Latour can be served with aperitifs, starters, main courses or cheeses. It will accompany for example a nice piece of grilled beef but also mushrooms such as pancakes or truffled starters. For the cheese, prefer a cheese of character to counterbalance the tense perfumes of the nectar.
