The estate tells you about it:
Let's go through the history of this Grand Cru, a close cousin of Chambertin. So close that it was only mentioned for the first time in 1508. At that time, the Latricières were certainly confused with their royal neighbour: the Chambertin. The etymology is rather mysterious: for some, undoubtedly poets, the origin is Frankish and means "little marvel", for others, more realistic and undoubtedly more observant, it is the very nature of the soil which is used to name it: "the Tricière", poor earth.
This poor soil can be observed during the scratches in summer: the clay-limestone substratum leaves a thin layer of silica on the surface. This thin layer comes from the scree of the nearby Combe Grissard.
What pride and emotion to work on this terroir of which we have the honour to be the custodians since 1904.
That year was particularly rich in happy events: first of all there was the birth of Louis on January 1st, then the acquisition of 35 ouvrées of Latricières from the Savot family by Pierre Arthur Trapet and finally the announcement of a superb vintage of which we still have a living testimony.
- This 1904 Latricières, the lifeblood of our family's work, is so dense, so powerful, but also so fragile that it makes us believe in immortality!
